1 | Sabbath Saturday change to Sunday | Matt 5:18 | bjh | 231755
I'm going to tie this answer to Matthew 5:18, because that is where your question comes from. I'm not sure that's where the answer lies. I admit that for the Jew, to whom the Mosaic Law was given, the Sabbath (Saturday) may not have changed. I, however, am not a Jew. It seems, that we need to look at Acts 15:20 to get an understanding of the law and Gentile believers (i.e., most of the church). Note that Sabbath-keeping was not one of the restrictions. Elsewhere, we read that we are not justified by keeping the Law, but by faith. Romans 3:19-31 What is one day over another? Colossians 2:16-17 Is not the Son of Man the Lord of the Sabbath? Mark 2:23-28? |

2 | What did they say? | Luke 4:22 | bjh | 218355
Who did they think He was? Who was He really? They "spoke well" but I don't think they truly recognized Him as God. Yes, they marveled at His words, but he was "Joseph's son", not "God's son". We see in this passage that He claimed to be the Anointed One - the Messiah. Not everyone can say that they fulfill "the favorable year of the Lord." |

3 | Was the curse on the ground lifted? | Gen 8:21 | bjh | 178411
You seem to be very fond of your analogy, but you haven't explained anything. 3) Luke 11:9-13, if you found the fruit, would you be willing to share it with others? 4) The context of Romans 2 is the condemnation of the Jew, for they did not live up to the standard by which they judged others. 5) Please explain... 6) ditto. Answers: You assume too much... I am no good at basketball or cooking. My answer to both would be "foolishness". |

4 | Looking for an ANSWER not a FIGHT!!!!!!! | Luke 19:10 | bjh | 177873
My apologies. With the caps lock on, you appeared to be shouting. I didn't mean to come across as being defensive, but others making the same claims, posed the question looking for a fight. My point was that the "very core of our Christian faith" is still in the NIV. Other than that, I saw Tim's (Morant61) very good response so I'll defer to him. |

5 | WHERE IS MAT18 V 11 GONE IN THE NIV???? | Luke 19:10 | bjh | 177867
Do you really want to hear or are you looking for a fight? No, "the very core of our Christian faith" is not left out of that version. Luke 19:10. A question, how do we know it was intentionallly omitted and not copied from Luke and added into Matthew 18:11? |

6 | Was the curse on the ground lifted? | Gen 8:21 | bjh | 177863
Brian, Something doesn't gel. Here's how I understand the verses you listed. 1) 1 John 1:5-10 speaks to believers about fellowship and sin's effect on our our fellowship with God. 2) Eph 2:10 speaks of the good works which God prepared for us to do 3) Luke 11:9-13 speaks of the goodness and graciousness of our Father in Heaven 4) Romans 2:1-16 speaks about the condemnation of the Jew... but incidentally, thinking about verse 1, why assume that I won't study the Book if you discussed all the verses? 5) 2 Corinthians 9:6-10 talks about giving not work 6) Colossians 3:16-17 says "do all in the name of the Lord Jesus" but says nothing about work not being hard, tiring, or exhausting. Why does Christ commend the Ephesians for their toil? (Rev 2:2) What is "toil"? Why does Paul tell Timothy that "we labor and strive"? (1 Timothy 4:10) What does it mean to "strive"? For that matter, what is "labor"? |

7 | Was the curse on the ground lifted? | Gen 8:21 | bjh | 177523
But, looking at Romans 8, the present earth has yet to be restored. The cleaned earth, the Restored earth, the freed earth, is yet to come. Not to say it "has been" set free, but rather it "will be"... future tense. Whatever we eat, even though we're able to eat anything according to Acts 10, we're still under the Genesis 3 curse. Work is still hard, toilsome, tiring, and exhausting. All that is directly related to the Genesis 3 curse. Is it not? |

8 | Was the curse on the ground lifted? | Gen 8:21 | bjh | 177484
Personally, and I know there will be those who disagree, I think the Adamic curse on the ground will only be lifted at Christ's second coming. Romans 8:18-22... Evidence that the original curse, c.f. Gen 3, is still there... 1. Toil 2. Thorns and Thistles Perhaps in Genesis 8 it is saying there won't be an additional curse. The ground has been cursed to us. We have to deal with the thorns and thistles. We, humans in general, have to work hard, to toil and sweat to get crops. But, there hasn't been another worldwide flood and there never will be. |

9 | confession for the Forgiven? | 1 John 1:9 | bjh | 154280
Maybe 1 John 1:9 isn't a condensed version of the conversion experience. Note John does say "we", why is he not including himself? It seems to me that the issue at hand is not conversion, but rather fellowship. If we sin, we are out of fellowship with Him. Once our sin is acknowledged and forgiven, our fellowship is restored. |

10 | How many books did paul write? | NT general Archive 1 | bjh | 153005
Paul wrote Romans, 1 and 2 Corinthians Galatians Ephesians Philippians Colossians 1 and 2 Thessalonians 1 and 2 Timothy Titus Philemon For a total of 13 books (Hebrews is debated, but I would say "no" based on Hebrews 2:3-4 - Paul was an eyewitness, he was taught by Christ Himself, and performed the signs of an apostle. The author of Hebrews talks about others who did and claims none of this himself.) |

12 | Where is *unconditional* love ? Verse? | Luke 6:27 | bjh | 146281
The phrase "unconditional love" is not in the Bible. However, the same can be said for "trinity" which believers hold to without question. The word "trinity" may not be in Scripture, but the concept definitely is. Back to the issue at hand...unconditional love. Consider how Jesus describes love in Luke 6:27-38. Love someone no matter what they do to you. John 3:16. God so loved the world. Why? What did the world do? They killed His Son, Jesus Christ. What was His love based on? While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Rom 5:8) This is unconditional love. |

13 | What does this really mean? | 1 Cor 11:27 | bjh | 146190
"Judging the body rightly" has a lot to do with eating and drinking worthily. I felt your other question touched on this. The church as the body of Christ is a familiar theme in 1 Corinthians. A man must examine himself, he is no better than anyone else at the table. "We who are many are one body, for we all partake of the one bread." (1 Cor 10:17) The problem in Corinth is that they didn't see past their own desires. Paul is saying "If you're hungry, eat at home. Here, at the Lord's table, it's important that everyone partakes. You are all a part of one body." |

15 | Gensis 9:6 : whoever sheds man's blood | Gen 9:6 | bjh | 144905
Basically, God is introducing capital punishment (the death penalty). See also Romans 13. Note verse 4. It is God's purpose for government to bring wrath on those who do wrong - even if it means death for the offender. Murder is the ultimate offense because God made man in His image. It is not our place to take the life of another (outside of what God has ordained - again, read Romans 13). |

17 | Does Ezekiel's temple refer to Christ? | Ezek 40:2 | bjh | 139234
Some have said that the temple described in Ezekiel 40-43 refers to Christ. As detailed as the description of the temple is in these chapters, I don't see how it is possible. Could this temple be Christ, Himself?
18 | Can you clarify your previous post? | Rom 11:25 | bjh | 139231
True, very true. My guess is that some would say that the Jews are no longer the "True Israel", but that the "Israel of God" (Gal 6:16) is the church and is now a mix of Jews and Gentiles. (But I, myself, do not hold that position.) |

19 | He-man, All the promises of Abraham? | Rom 11:25 | bjh | 139208
That's a good question. The Bible speaks of a New Heaven and a New Earth - Rev 21:1 ff. It looks like the answer is "yes" there will be both, and that we will have free access to either place.
20 | Can you clarify your previous post? | Rom 11:25 | bjh | 139116
Sorry about that... Some say that the Israel of the Old Testament and the Church of the New Testament are one group. They would say that the Church is Israel. Others say that because of the Jews' (Israel's) rejection of the Messiah, they have been displaced (rather than "replaced") for a time as God's people. Yet, one day God will deal with the Jews (Israel) again. |
