NASB | Luke 4:22 And all were speaking well of Him, and wondering at the gracious words which were falling from His lips; and they were saying, "Is this not Joseph's son?" |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Luke 4:22 And [as He continued on] they all were speaking well of Him, and were in awe and were wondering about the words of grace which were coming from His lips; and they were saying, "Is this not Joseph's son?" |
Bible Question: Clearly after the people say this it is clear that Jesus senses hostility from them as, in the next verse, he starts comparing Himself to the prophets were rejected by their own people. What is it about what these people said that shows that they are rejecting Jesus? |
Bible Answer: Who did they think He was? Who was He really? They "spoke well" but I don't think they truly recognized Him as God. Yes, they marveled at His words, but he was "Joseph's son", not "God's son". We see in this passage that He claimed to be the Anointed One - the Messiah. Not everyone can say that they fulfill "the favorable year of the Lord." |
