Early Christians followed apostolic tradition Acts 2:42, 2 Timothy 2:2 "And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit Thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also" The great commission by Christ was to preach not to write. Matthew 28:19-20 "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you" Bible hard to understand gets distorted. 2 Peter 3:15-16 specially by PROTESTant … Resulting in Over 33,82000 Denominations More oral tradition. 2 John 1:12, 3 John 1:13-14 Against personal interpretation. 2 Peter 1:20-21 again PROTESTant is being REMINDED by This verse The Pope and his Catholic Church Guidance needed to interpret scriptures. Martin Luther O.S.A. an Augustinian monk protested against the Mother Catholic Church due to some bad members of the Church selling “indulgences” (Judas) Thus starting the division (denominations) of Jesus body. Hello Al, I think you misunderstand how Paul used the word "tradition". The word means to transmit or transfer behavior or lifestyle or body of knowledge to others. I think we can agree here. So in that regard, Paul is insisting that others follow apostolic teaching as delivered and apply that in the local churches. What it does not say is that we are allowed to make new traditions in the church. The truth of the one holy apostolic and catholic church has largely (and sadly) been ignored by God's people. Steve |

POPE AND AUTHORITY Christ gave Pope Peter alone the "keys of the kingdom" (Matt. 16:19) and promised that Peters decisions would be binding in heaven. He also gave similar power to the other apostles (Catholic Bishops) (Matt. 18:18), but only Pope Peter was given the keys, symbols of his authority to rule the Church on earth in Jesus’ absence. In Matthew 16:19 Jesus is referring to Isaiah 22:22 I will place the key of the House of David on his shoulder; when he opens, no one shall shut, when he shuts, no one shall open. Rev. 3:7 : "To the angel of the church in Philadelphia, write this: "The holy one, the true, who holds the key of David, who opens and no one shall close, who closes and no one shall open, …” His church is a living church. God Bless Jun |

Al, You're basing the argument for Papal Authority on what I consider weak scriptural foundation. Scripture never refers to Peter nor confers on him the title of "Pope". That is your tradition! May I say in all fairness, that IMO this is tradition passed down to you by the Catholic Church! I'm not sure why you persist in pushing this denominational bias, Al. Most of us are well aware of these positions and it is certainly confirmation of the differences between Catholicism and protestanism. These differences have existed for centuries and I'm sure will continue, much like Calvinism and Arminianism to be points of contention- if we allow them! My friend, you are as welcome on this Forum as anyone else Catholic or Protestant, but please stop being so patronizing. It's not necessary, and you're not covering any new ground:-) Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |
