Greetings Makarios! It is good to hear from you old friend! How are things going? I concur with your position. If we forbad the reading of anything with a 'non-Christian' element, we would not be able to read even a murder mystery! :-) Fantasy is fantasy! I have been reading fantasy and SciFi since I was six years old. It has never impacted my view of the real world in the slightest. I love Star Wars, but I don't believe in some all pervasive Force. I have read Lord of the Rings, but I don't believe in wizards. I have read SciFi, but I don't believe in aliens. I have read Harry Potter, but I have not begun to practice witchcraft. It is simply entertainment. Now, if anyone chooses not to read these books, I have no problem with that decision. But, if anyone tries to make that decision for me - I would have problem with it. :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Hi, fellas... tossing my two cents in here... I agree with you, Tim. Frankly, I think people get kind of superstitious about this kind of stuff. It reminds me of people who worry about three sixes being in a phone number. :-) When it comes to reading secular stuff, I do have a little problem. There is just so much good, wonderful stuff out there that I never get around to reading, I'd feel kind of guilty spending time on those Potter books. I still haven't made it through Augustine's "City of God!" :-) |
