Isn't it rather obvious? Your question that is, "Why Jesus prayed for the cup to be passed from him?" What if you knew every excruciating little detail, as Christ did, beforehand and you had to go through all of the torture and suffering that Christ went through and the humiliation and pain of being crucified and knew on top of all this that God was going to punish you for all the sins of mankind from Adam to the end of time, wouldn’t that make you a little nervous and apprehensive, remember Jesus was also a man! That was the hardest thing ever accomplished by a man and even Christ didn't know what to expect, pain wise, when God poured out His wrath on him! I question your even asking! The movie, The Passion, couldn’t go into the details as to what it was like to be separated from God as Christ was but we are all reminded that everything up to the sixth hour when there was darkness didn’t cause him to cry out; It wasn’t until God forsook him that he screamed at the ninth hour! The only ones that will experience what Jesus suffered are those that won’t trust in God’s Son, and they will get a first hand feeling as to why Jesus said, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt. What make you think that Satan had anything to do with anything connected with the Holiness of God; in you statement, “it would be enough for the Devil to keep Him there forever.” The devil has nothing to do with the perfect plan of God and he has nothing to do with hell or the lake of fire other then the fact that he will suffer there like all the rest that don’t fear God! OK, you've answered one question but you didn't respond to the one about the Devil's tempting Jesus in the desert after Jesus was baptized. IF there was NOT even a slight chance during this exchange of Jesus' slipping and sinning, then what's the purpose of this story in our Bible? Further, what's the value of Heb 4:15 if what you say is true? It seems you have a difficult explanation to craft together. But I await your reply. God bless. --Rowdy |

Hi Rowdy, You made this statement in your post, NOT me! “going to Hell” “If Christ was guilty of just one single impure thought for just a fleeting moment, it would be enough for the Devil to keep Him there forever.” I am saying that the devil doesn’t keep anybody anyplace! What I was trying to point out is the fact that Satan doesn’t control anything in hell and he has no power in hell or the lake of fire, as many falsely assume. Right now those that have died in Christ would have a better chance of seeing Satan in heaven then those that died outside of Christ and are in the place of torments. Figure that one out, and if you can’t I will back it up with Scripture! Many can only visualize Satan, or the devil, as a figure with a red epidermis, a set of horns and a tail and carrying around a trident or pitchfork and screaming out cruel orders to those that are burning. In fact nothing could be further from the truth. Satan was the most beautiful creature that God ever created and most wouldn’t know him even if he were to talk to them. I would imagine that Satan loves his present picture of deception because no one can spot him as he really is! If Satan was ever portrayed as he really is all the woman would probably swoon over him! CDBJ Excellent insight. I might add Satan is equally attractive to the men perhaps as an alluring female or enviable super man. In any case a long way from the seemingly harmless little red guy with a pitch fork and pointy tail. All in all a great post! EdB |
