Hi, Tim... The doctrine of the Trinity is one that defies understanding. It is one of those things that we must be careful to state as Scripture states, but no more and no less, and that without full comprehension. One of the finest works of the church was the careful statement of the Nicene Creed (www.reformed.org/documents/nicene.html). Athanasius did a brilliant job. But to say more or to say less will tend to take us into unscriptural heresy. It isn't satisfying intellectually, but then... if you think about it... what kind of God would He be if His nature could be easily described by His creatures. :-) As complex as creation is, we should not be surprised to find the Creator complex. Nevertheless, He has graciously provided us with His self revelation. In Him, Doc |

You know, you're absolutely right. And it is awesome God hasn't told us everything. Thank you for correcting me once again. The only little detail is…our baptist church doesn't say the Nicene Creed…and I've only heard it once before. Do you know where (a web site) I could find it or something? I'd appreciate that. thanks once again. |

Dear Tim, I, too, attend a Baptist church, nor does my church generally practice reciting creeds. I am not quite so convinced that their main value is in recitation. Mainly they help summarize the position of the church on various subjects in the face of heresy. Paul said that heresies were inevitable (1 Corinthians 11:19). In a way, we can be grateful to God for them, since it is rare that the church has made much headway except in the face of heresies! :-) Here is that link again for the Nicene Creed: www.reformed.org/documents/nicene.html In Him, Doc |
