If I may jump in with a few words… It is agreed that we all sin. We are all forgiven through grace alone. I think that our God given ability to choose makes it clear that we can turn from God. Unrepentant sin in our lives doesn’t take away our salvation, but it hardens our hearts and encourages the choice to turn from God. That is why the writer of Hebrews ( 3:12-15) warns the brothers to encourage each other daily because sin is deceitful. It will “harden” us. Decide for yourself, can you willfully continue to sin in a particular area of your life (say pornography) day after day and not be hardened in your heart? Can we walk by the begger on the street day after day and not harden our hearts? Will these things become acceptable to us eventually? What saves us? Gods grace! His willingness to forgive the sinner anything when the sinner turns back to Him in repentence. The ability to CHOOSE to repent is ours. The ability not to repent is also ours. No one does what is right all the time, and we all sin in many ways. But as Paul says in 2 Cor. 5:14 “for Christs love compels us…” We are given the ultimate motivation to live Holy lives, but at the same time we can’t think that Satan isn’t out there trying to “devour” us (1 Peter 5:8). It’s a battle! “ Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.” Eph. 6:10-18 I would motivate you friend to look at your own life and see where sin has settled in. To look at the lives of your brothers and call them on any sin you see in their lives. I do, and it helps me and my brothers stay close to our Father. Although I will never be perfect in this body, I want to do my best to abstain from sin and be an example for Christ. There is much more to say on this subject. Tell me what you think. Kin |
