1 | does God know all things? Genesis 22:12 | James 2:21 | imuvhim | 80205
"Abraham's offering of Isaac demonstrated the genuineness of his faith and the reality of his justification before God. James is emphasizing the vindication before others of an man's claim to salvation." I'm sorry I'm critical but how is this so? This doesn't make sense to me. Just reading the verse makes sense. And also the first line of the explanation makes sense, but not the second. The explanation seem to undo what James said. James don't only emphasize the vindication before others, but also before God. The good question was ask why God said, 'now I know.' This not about vindication before others, but before God. No matter what man think, all that matters is that God know our faith. Unless it is important to be menpleasers. The only kind of faith that matter is an active or obeying one. We must count the cost of being an disciple even before we decide to build the tower. Faith count the costs and repents. When God sees faith then he says of sinner 'now I know' and justifies. Hi imuvhim, I must apologize for not completing the quote from MacArthur's Study Bible. Perhaps by leaving it incompleted, I made it sound not right to you. I won't write all of his note for James 2:21 but I will complete his note from where I started. MacArthur's Study Bible note for James 2:21" "...Instead, Abraham's offering of Isaac demonstrated the genuineness of his faith and the reality of his justification before God. James is emphasizing the vindication before others of a man's claim to salvation. [continuing] James's teaching perfectly complements Paul's writings; salvation is determined by faith alone (Eph. 2:8,9) and demonstrated by faithfulness to obey God's will alone (Eph. 2:10). Thank you for giving more explaining. Here my point. There is only one faith, not two. Like one faith that God judge me by--faith alone. Then another faith that man sees that is works. No, this not right. There is only one faith. God seeing the obedient faith that it shows Him they trust Him. God makes forgiven because of this one faith. There is no need to make two faiths. See what I'm say? |

4 | does God know all things? Genesis 22:12 | James 2:21 | Ray | 80316
Hi imuvhim, I think I see what you are saying. The last part of the MacArthur quote should help us. He spoke of the faith that saved and the faithfulness that was demonstrated afterward. Perhaps the second faith that you speak of is MacArthur's "faithfulness". Ephesians 2:8, "For by grace you have been saved by faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of (God); not as a result of works, that no one should boast. For we are *His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works,..." Genesis 18:19, "For (I) have chosen him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the *Lord by doing righteousness and justice; in order that the Lord may bring upon Abraham what He has spoken about him." I hope that I have been of help and have understood you. From the heart, Ray |
