1 | Who is guilty as charged? | Heb 10:29 | Mommapbs | 95104
New Creature - there are many who will also agree with your position, for a time, I too was living under fear of punishment for the sin I recognized in my life - all that it did was to rob me of the joy of my salvation (my complete and total forgiveness in Christ) and kept me focused on MY performance (rather than what God in CHrist is doing through me 1 Cor 2:10). Remembering that Jesus died for ALL, changes the way that I respond to those who mistreat me - their sins as well as mine were paid for, how dare I harbor ill-will toward them!? (And yet, at times I still do . . . does this mean that I "trample" what Christ has done for me - of course not, for I have accepted/received His gift and He will not take it back. I am secure in His hand.) Consider Felix in Acts 24: 22-27. He knew the Gospel message, he was even frightened by the result of its rejection - judgement - yet did he receive it? Are there not many folks today who listen politely to the gospel, they may even regularly attend our churches, Bible Studies, sing in the choir, etc and go about their lives in an orderly and moral manner . . . yet they see no need for anything more; they think they have done it all right, and yet their hearts are uncircumcized; they know all about Grace, but have never recieved it. Hence they live under a performance based order that is indeed and "insult" to the work of the Holy Spirit. I'm not trying to change your mind, just showing you how God changed me. 2 | Who is guilty as charged? | Heb 10:29 | New Creature | 95105
Mommapbs Once again in Heb 10:29 those guilty are have said to have been sanctified. Unless unbelievers are sanctified this verse cannot apply to them and as far as I can tell is a serious warning to believers. I also agree with the following statement concerning Heb 10:29 which comes from Coffman Commentaries on the New testament. "the sad, unwelcome fact, and one almost unbelievable, that even after one is a true and devoted Christian, enjoying all the privileges of salvation, even "sanctified" as in this verse, that even then such a person can defect from the Lord and lose his soul. All efforts to alter this fact, whether by tampering with the text of scripture or by explanations that deny the text, should be rejected." Therefore I respectfully disagree with your opinion Grace to you New Creature |
