1 | Do you accept defeat too? | Heb 10:14 | EdB | 108623
Greetings All Let me tip toe in here. Emmaus while I think our body is integral with our spirit I do see us in kind a body suit as only our spirit is eternal. At the fall man’s spirit became sinful. But if we look at the fall we see lust already existed in the flesh but was held in check by the spirit. The Serpent tempted Eve with the lust of flesh, was good to eat, with the lust of eye was pleasant to look at, and pride of life desirable to make one wise. Genesis 3:6 and 1 John 2:16 After the fall with a sinful spirit man was without hope and sin reigned in man. Upon salvation we come new, old things have passed away 2 Cor 5:17 is talking about our spirit man. In Romans where it talks about our old man being set free from sin is talking about our spirit man. Our spirit is dead to sin but sin still reigns in the body and will until the resurrection when we get our perfect body. 1 Cor. 15:51-52 “ Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed-- [52] in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.” Once we are saved we can like Eve override our spirit either intentionally or on the spur of the moment but because Christ died for our sins our spirit no longer dies because of sin, but now instead has eternal life. Our new spirit man in agreement with the Holy Spirit immediately reminds us of the sin and in my case keeps me in a state of turmoil until I set things right. EdB |

2 | Do you accept defeat too? | Heb 10:14 | Emmaus | 108626
Ed, Then is Jesus really true man as well as true God or just God in a body suit? It is late and I have to go to bed, but I think we may be getting into some basic Christology here. Emmaus |

3 | Do you accept defeat too? | Heb 10:14 | EdB | 108627
Emmaus Hebrews 4:15 For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. This tells me Jesus had a human body that lusted after the same things ours does, but that His Spirit being sinless caused Him to live a sinless life. He had to allow His Spirit to rule His body something none of us masters. EdB |

4 | Do you accept defeat too? | Heb 10:14 | Emmaus | 108632
Ed, It is the "body suit" concept that I can not accept. The nature of man is an integrated spiritual and physical being. We know this because God created us that way and death (the result of sin) is the separation of the body and spirit. Jesus came to overcome death by the resurrection of the body to restore us to wholeness, although at an even higher level than we had before. I must go to bed. Early wakeup for work. Good to correspond with you again. Emmaus Emmaus |

6 | Do you accept defeat too? | Heb 10:14 | Emmaus | 108645
Ed, We will be integrally perfected, not separately as I understand and see it. Our redemption is not completed until the resurrection of the body we again become whole and cleansed of all sin as God originally created us to be. Emmaus |

7 | Do you accept defeat too? | Heb 10:14 | EdB | 108674
Emmaus I agree we are integral spirit and body but upon salvation the spirit is transformed from dead in sin to eternal sinlessness. Our bodies however remains corruptible flesh with all it desires both good and bad. That body will eventually die, to be resurrected again. However our bodies upon resurrection are transformed from corruptible to incorruptible. Therefore at this time I see the situation of a Christian as a sinless eternal spirit dwelling in an corruptible mortal body. In this situation we at times give into the desires of the flesh whether through a instant response of calling a person an idiot in moment of anger or over time, convincing ourselves we are entitled to enjoy life and justifying adultery or some other sin. Paul describes this tension in Romans chapters 7 and 8. He admonishes us that the more we allow our spirits to control our flesh the closer to perfection we walk Romans 8:7-11. However at the resurrection our spirit will be joined with our risen resurrected bodied that have been transformed from corruptible to incorruptible at that point our bodies will no longer have lusts and sinful desires. Our spirit and body will once again be in harmony with each other allowing us to live in sinless perfection. That is how I see it, until we are free of this sinful flesh with it lusts and desires will there will be a war within us. If we walk in flesh we sin, if we walk in the spirit we are free of sin.
