1 | Sins Forgiven | Col 2:13 | CDBJ | 168620
Greetings, So if I am hearing you right God will forgive us because we forgive others? Why did God have to send His Son in the first place then, if to be forgiven, all we had to do is forgive others of there sins against us? In effect, with your logic, the world didn't need a Saviour, just an attitude of forgiveness and things would be peachy keen for mankind and that would have made us acceptable in God’s sight! Am I to believe that God is actually impressed with my sincerity in my confession of sin, or the fact that His Son actually died for the sin that I’m confessing? And where on a scale of 1 to 10 does the sincerity actually kick in and count, when it comes to God forgiving me? Maybe at 4.97 the forgiveness really starts to work! Or maybe I could be highly optimistic and just assume that all I needed to do is what God says in the first place, and claim the following as being reliable and truthful. 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Maybe, just maybe, God forgot to tell me about the sincerity part when I exercise and claim the promise of I John 1:9 I hate to appear facetious, but do you get my drift. CDBJ |

2 | Sins Forgiven | Col 2:13 | romans11:19 | 168631
The bible does say if we don't forgive we will not be forgiven. The bible is an instruction book on how to live our life. Each of us as an individual learns different lessons. We are all rebellious in not listening to God's instructions and we are all to die because of it. God in His great love and mercy sent His Son so we would not die but through Him have eternal life. I never said we didn't need a saviour, my logic is to believe in God, to listen and do His commandments and to listen to the Holy Spirit to guide me into all truths. As far as sincerity goes God does examine our hearts for sincerity, many speak with their lips but their hearts are far from Him. Without God teaching us we wouldn't even know what a sin beyond the obvious is. If I continue to ask God for forgiveness and I have faith that I'm forgiven I continue to trust in Him. Are we to confess our sins only to repeat that sin because we have been forgiven? If we are sincere we ask God for forgiveness and stop doing the sin we are confessing. We are to examine ourself and work out our own salvation with trembling and fear and my way may not be your way.Luke 18:10-14

romans 11:19, I think you're overlooking a significant event in your interpretation- the cross! How would you then reconcile your statement that "The bible does say if we don't forgive we will not be forgiven", if you don't consider the pivotal event in the Bible? Further, how would Col.2:13 be viewed? Did Christ by His death on the cross fully atone for ALL our sins or didn't He? Eph. 1:7 tells us that: "In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace" Scripture cannot contradict itself, so we must somehow reconcile seeming discrepancies in our interpretative methods:-) We are indeed to "work out our own salvation", but don't stop there, because both verses in Phil. 2:12, 13 must be read in their entirety as they consitute one sentence in the Greek! Verse 13 continues, "...for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure." I rest in the assurance that all my sins are forgiven. That is the walk of faith! My goal is Gal. 5:16- daily! Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |
