Peace be with you, and thank you for your reply. Your answer implies one must be poor to be born again. Does God want us to be poor? Or does God want us to look to him as the source of all that makes us prosper. Does God want to make us wealthy spiritually and materially? 3 John 1:2 Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers. “When john said we should prosper and be in health, he added the phrase, “Even as thy soul prospereth”. Man is a spirit; he has a soul consisting of the mind, the will and the emotions; and he lives in a body. Thus, there is spiritual prosperity; there is mental prosperity; and there is physical prosperity.” The law of Prosperity by Kenneth Copeland |

Hi Barb, With all due respect, I really don't think much of Kenneth Copeland and his prosperity nonsense. Here's why: It does not stand the test of orthodoxy and it is not Biblical. God has already blessed us with ALL the SPIRITUAL blessings in the heavenlies, IN CHRIST (Eph. 1:3)! Why would we be so focused on the material? Consider this: Are you (and myself) willing to seek God simply for Who He is? (Job. 1:9) Are we willing to submit to God because He alone deserves it? Are Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit enough? This is not to say that one must be broke to know and love Christ. However, 20th and 21st Century Christendom in the WOF movement has sadly fallen into the pursuit of worldly pleasures rather than the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ. Thank you for your response: The book of Job is a wonderful statement of faith isn’t it? Praise the Lord. “Job 1:1 There was a man in the land of Uz whose name was Job; and that man was blameless, upright, fearing God and turning away from evil.” A good man believing in the power of God! Job 1:3 His possessions also were 7,000 sheep, 3,000 camels, 500 yoke of oxen, 500 female donkeys, and very many servants; and that man was the greatest of all the men of the east. A wealthy man graced by God. Job 1:5 When the days of feasting had completed their cycle, Job would send and consecrate them, rising up early in the morning and offering burnt offerings according to the number of them all; for Job said, "Perhaps my sons have sinned and cursed God in their hearts." Thus Job did continually. A repentant sinner Job 1:8 And the Lord said to Satan, Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who [reverently] fears God and abstains from and shuns evil [because it is wrong]? The debate between God and Satan Job 1:10 "Have You not made a hedge about him and his house and all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land. Recognition by Satan of Gods grace which made Job a wealthy man and challenge of Jobs obedience for God Job 1:12 Then the LORD said to Satan, "Behold, all that he has is in your power, only do not put forth your hand on him." So Satan departed from the presence of the LORD. God accepts the challenge and gives Satan authority over Jobs possessions. Job 1:16 While he was still speaking, another also came and said, "The fire of God fell from heaven and burned up the sheep and the servants and consumed them, and I alone have escaped to tell you." Satan’s wrath and consumption of Jobs material wealth, notice how the servant blames God for the fire. Job 1:19 and behold, a great wind came from across the wilderness and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell on the young people and they died, and I alone have escaped to tell you." A second example of Satan’s power over earthly elements Job 1:21 And said, Naked (without possessions) came I [into this world] from my mother's womb, and naked (without possessions) shall I depart. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; blessed (praised and magnified in worship) be the name of the Lord! What an amazing statement of faith. And don’t forget were talking pre covenant here. Point is Job was not punished for his wealth; he was wealthy because God gave it to him. Satan was sure Job worshiped because he was wealthy. Is it easier to worship God if you can afford it? Clearly Job passed the test; he worshiped despite Satan striping him of all his earthly possessions. Wealth is not mutually exclusive of faith; faith therefore is not mutually exclusive of wealth. May we be guided on the path of obedience by our sprits and souls through the blood of Jesus thanks be to God for all of his blessings. |

Hello Barb, No, the point is we're not even on the same page! I'm a self-employed business owner and have been for 18-plus years! I've made a fair amount of money doing so. (God has blessed me). But, and this is a huge BUT, wealth is not my God-given perogative BECAUSE I'm a believer, nor does God OWE me wealth. I've read all the "success books" and applied many of the principles contained theirin. There are sound principles of success, that when applied can lead to the creation of wealth- independent of whether one is godly or ungodly! (Look at Donald Trump) That is the distinction I'm trying to make. The WOF Prosperity "gospel" is a recent 20th and 21st Century heresy. It is not ceded in Orthodox Christianity! The delusion of Copeland, et al, is that wealth is our God-given right and we just need to claim it. That is pure bunk! Is wealth the only thing we're after? Is material blessing the sum total of all we seek God for? Or, do we seek the Person of our Lord Jesus Christ, because He alone is worthy of our praise? Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

Hi Brad: Luke 19:15 "When he returned, after receiving the kingdom, he ordered that these slaves, to whom he had given the money, be called to him so that he might know what business they had done. I am also a business owner. God wants us to use his Gifts and prosper! As a fellow business owner I am sure there are plenty of people telling you how to run your business, right? I know I do. It seems almost all of these people are folks who do not have or run a business of their own. I usually just smile and nod politely. I never take advice from someone unless they are far more successful than I am. Who would be more successful than God? Look how he blessed Job. Job 1:3 His possessions also were 7,000 sheep, 3,000 camels, 500 yoke of oxen, 500 female donkeys, and very many servants; and that man was the greatest of all the men of the east Our business is very successful; it is at the point where I own a business, not a job. I will personally testify God has had a major impact on my business, without his guidance and willingness to accept my burden I would be lost. No, I am not in the God business, I am in manufacturing. My point in starting this conversation is to foster an appreciation for the Gifts we receive from God and Gods interests in ALL of our affairs earthly as well as Heavenly. And Job testified. Job 1:21 And said, Naked (without possessions) came I [into this world] from my mother's womb, and naked (without possessions) shall I depart. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; blessed (praised and magnified in worship) be the name of the Lord! There are some who take a vow of poverty and devote their lives to God. There are plenty of people also devoted to spreading Gods word who are far from poverty. (God’s product) We have over 100 employees. Some are paid very well and others are paid not so well. Yet all of them contribute to making our product. The point is everything we have and will have is a GIFT from God. Even the wicked receive from God if he so wills. May we continue to love and grow in our faith! BBQ |

Dear Barb, Some of the confusion in this series of posts is, at least in my case due to your original post (as well as the post where you quoted Mr. Copeland). I would agree with you, that we need “…an appreciation for the Gifts we receive from God and Gods interests in ALL of our affairs earthly as well as Heavenly.” I also agree with your statement that “…everything we have and will have is a GIFT from God. Even the wicked receive from God if he so wills.” But your original post was titled “Show me the Money”, and ended with you saying “What is God’s word for assuring us of abundance on this earth?” God in NO WAY assures us of material abundance on this earth. Just think of the countless missionaries who have sacrificed their lives, both monetarily and literally, for God. And how about, as someone else mentioned, the many Christians who are persecuted, many of whom even end up without a home, or worse, their lives? If you have been blessed with financial wealth, praise The Lord! But that does not mean that everyone will be blessed the way you have been. Ocelot |
