1 | Has anyone read BeDuhn's new book? | Phil 2:6 | fellow worker | 144318
Has anyone read the new book by Greek scholar Jason BeDuhn - Truth in Translation? He lays out his criticism for the NASB translation of this verse. As regards the Amplified Bible, he says it is not a translation at all, but only reviewed it, along with 8 other widely published English translations, because of its popularity. He describes why the Amplified translation of Phil 2:6 bears little resemblance to the original Greek text. A "must read" for all truthseekers.

fellow worker - Jason BeDuhn a "must read" for all truth seekers, you say? I say Jason BeDuhn is not worth reading! He is the "scholar" who opposes legitimate scholars in their denunciation of the New World Translation. He is the "scholar" who has the raw audacity to call Bruce Metzer and all other legitimate translators totally wrong in translating John 1:1 "the Word was God" and the New World Translation right in translating it "the word was a god." It is BeDuhn who lauds the Watchtowers's New World Translation and teaches from the their "Kingdom Interlinear Translation" in his classroom. No, I have not read BeDuhn's latest leap into translation fantasy, do not intend to, and do not recommend anyone else to read it. I would recommend a web site, however, to any who would like to know more about this charlatan-on-parade as a bona fide Bible scholar. Go to _forananswer.org_ and click on "A Dialog with Dr. Jason BeDuhn on John 1:1" that can be found by scrolling down the right hand side of the home page. How come you are so commendable of BeDuhn? My advice to you and everyone else on this Forum is BeDuhn with BeDuhn! --Hank

I've heard of judging a book by its cover, but this goes just a tad further. In Mr. BeDuhn's preface he writes: "I was moved to write because of my shock at the lack of the most basic facts about the Bible in the modern popular debate over its accurate translation and meaning. I was greatly disappointed to find that the few well-trained scholars who have participated in the debate, for reasons known only to themselves, have chosen to reinforce rather than alleviate the burden of misinformation and wanton bias in the debate." I hope more have the courage to stand up to the slander that is sure to greet any that attempt to voice the unpopular. May they rejoice in knowing their lord Jesus suffered similarly. By the way, where can one buy a New World translation? I've looked at all the religious book stores - online and elsewhere. |

fellow worker - May I assure you that I am not judging BeDuhn's book by its cover but by its author, of whom I have a great deal of knowledge. Here is a man who has written a book calling defective such translations as KJV, NRSV, NASB, NIV, TEV and the Amplified Bible who himself is neither a theologian nor an apologist but a professor of humanities, arts and religion at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona. His name is conspicuously absent from the published list of faculty members whom Northern Arizona University considers pacesetters in their fields. This is the man who calls virtually every legitimate translation in English "defective" and every legitimate translator in error and who sides with the Watchtower's deliberately mistranslated New World version -- this is the man behind the book that you are touting and I am condemning. ..... I am singularly unimpressed by what BeDuhn says about the merits of his book in the preface he wrote to it. What would you expect him to say -- that he has written a lousy book that no one should waste a penny to purchase or a minute to read? --Hank
