1 | Filled by the holy spirit? | Eph 5:18 | kalos | 59402
Ray: Good morning, my friend. Always good to hear from you. :-) OK. Let's try it your way for a moment. Webster's defines control as restrain, influence, regulate, govern, direct, rule. According to you, filled with the Holy Spirit does not mean controlled by the Holy Spirit. Therefore, the Holy Spirit, God, does NOT restrain, influence, regulate, govern, direct or rule. Grace and peace to you, kalos - - - - - - - - - - - - - control a : to exercise restraining or directing influence over : REGULATE (to govern or direct according to rule) b : to have power over : RULE (a prescribed guide for conduct or action ) (www.m-w.com/) |

2 | Filled by the holy spirit? | Eph 5:18 | Ray | 59525
Hi Kalos, Neither you nor I want to equate the Holy Spirit with His attributes or power. Otherwise we would be saying that the Holy Spirit is just an influence. I have not problem, however, with saying that the holy spirit is an influence. I want to be filled with that power just as Jesus was, if possible. From the heart, Ray |

"The Holy Spirit must never be considered merely as a blessing, a feeling, or an INFLUENCE." Ray: You write: "Hi Kalos, Neither you nor I want to equate the Holy Spirit with His attributes or power. Otherwise we would be saying that the Holy Spirit is just an influence." ------------- As of 16 months ago (April, 2001) I have been on record as saying that the Holy Spirit is not an influence. So I really do not understand what the problem is. I quote: 'kalos Fri 04/27/01, 10:23am' '..."The Spirit Himself", by Ralph M. Riggs, Springfield, Missouri: Gospel Publishing House, Copyright 1949, 1977. What I like about [this book] is that it covers not only the DOCTRINE of the Holy Spirit, but also the PERSON of the Holy Spirit.' Here is a brief sample of the book: "MISTAKE TO USE 'IT' WITH REFERENCE TO THE HOLY SPIRIT "The Holy Spirit must never be considered merely as a blessing, a feeling, or an INFLUENCE. How far short of the full truth it is to refer to Him as 'It.'" (Emphasis added.) Grace to you, kalos |
