lost-n-MS- I pray that this site will be a blessing to you. First, you need to know all that being a Christian means. It means giving up to the Lord rulership of your life. It is not easy, but He has made so many promises to us that those who are not Christian can never comprehend the reality of it all. Peace, jooy, love, hope, etc. , and yes, trials and persecution, but through the rough times, you know that He is there and His love is eternal. He gave His very life in the most horrible way that can be imagined for YOU! Because He loves you and could not imagine going through eternity without you. But He will not force you to spend eternity with HIm. Nor will He force you trust in Him or make Him Lord in your life. If you choose to love Him, if you choose to give your life to Him, all it take is to repent of your sins (a turn around of 180 degrees - knowig the things you are doing or the life you are living is incomplete without HIm), acknowledging the Jesus Christ is God and you want Him to come into your heart and be Lord of your life forever. When you truly desire this, when you invite Him in, He will come in. He will revive the spirit you were born with and make it new in Him. You are His child. Then you need to find a bible-believing and teaching church. There are many denominations that teach what scripture has to say. And above all, read your bible. Get a version that is easy to understand and I would suggest starting with the book of the gospel of John. God bless you in your walk with the Lord. You will never walk alone. If you have any more questions - E-mail me. Debbie |

Bringing a lost soul to Christ is a very responsible thing to do and if you choose to advise someone as to what they should do to be saved you should tell them the ENTIRE truth. No example in the bible says that all a person has to do is "repent of your sins (a turn around of 180 degrees - knowing the things you are doing or the life you are living is incomplete without HIm), acknowledging that Jesus Christ is God and you want Him to come into your heart and be Lord of your life forever." This is just the beginning of faith but until a person is baptized for the remission of sins they are just as lost as they ever were. Anyone who teaches you otherwise will have to stand before God and answer for their incomplete teaching. John, THE BAPTIST, prepared the way, Jesus was BAPTIZED (although he didn't need to except to fulfill all righteousness, Mt 3:15), the 3000 on the day of Pentecost were BAPTIZED (Acts 2:41), and all throughout the book of Acts we see example aftrer example after example of salvation including baptism. Not after a person is saved, not as a symbol of salvation, but in order to be saved. It is no more a work than hearing, believing, repenting, or confessing. The New Testament is very clear about its purpose, its importance, and its result, REMISSION OF SIN! Romans, 1 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, and Colossians all speak about baptism. I pray to God that people will open their minds to the truth of His word! | ||||||

Scripture ... Acts 10:44-48; 16:30-34 ... FTimA, Stop spreading lies. If you read Acts 10:44-48, when were the people saved? Did they have the Holy Spirit before they were saved? I think not. They were saved when they received the Holy Spirit .. then they were baptized by water. In Acts 16:30 the question was "What must I do to be saved" Verse 31 has not one thing, nothing, about being baptized. Tho baptism do happen after the wounds were washed ... was there a delay in their salvation? Did Pual not tell the whole truth? I think not. Note - have you investigated the Greek tenses of Acts 2:38. Note - did you know that Campbell was never baptized for the remission of his sins, tho he preached it? Investigate. Searcher |

Yes, the story of Cornelius. This is good teaching. The entire context begins with Acts 10:1 and ends in chapter 11:18. If you read ALL of it you will understand that God's purpose here was to show the Jews that salvation was for everyone, Jew and Gentile. Yes, its true they received baptism of the Holy Spirit prior to water baptism, but where in the bible does it say "you must be baptized with the Holy Spirit to be saved"? The Holy Spirit fell upon Cornelius and the others of his household and vs 45 says, "And those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also". Those of the circumcision were Jews and how else would they have believed that salvation had come to the Gentiles unless by some miraculous God-given sign? The fact that the Gentiles did receive the Holy Ghost does not mean they were saved because there is no passage I know of that supports this idea. If there is please tell me. I would like to know. Peter commanded them to be (water) baptized, why? The same reason Jesus was, to fulfill all righteousness (Mt 3:15)! Until one is water baptized for the remission of sin ALL RIGHTEOUSNESS IS NOT FULFILLED! The Philippian jailer? Also very good teaching, but you must look at the entire story, not just what you want to look at. It begins at Acts 16:16 and ends at Acts 16:34. Yes, verse 31 says nothing about being baptized and it never will until you read just two more verses down to vs 33, And he(the jailer) took them(Paul and Silas) that very hour of the night and washed their wounds, and immediately he(the jailer) was baptized, he and all his household (were baptized). Note also that this verse says "and immediately he was baptized". Paul most certainly told the whole truth! No, I have not studied Greek tenses. Somebody else asked me about that and I copied the same verse (Acts 2:38) from 17 different translations. All of them have repent, be baptized, for the remission of sins. Now I am not absolutely certain but I think there were approximately 70 scholars, Greek scholars no doubt, that translated the most widely used translation of the bible, the King James Version. How does it read? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. The King James Version, (Cambridge: Cambridge) 1769. Let me repeat that. REPENT, BE BAPTIZED, E V E R Y O N E O F Y O U in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, AND THEN you will receive the gift of the Holy Ghost! The other 16 translations say the same thing in the same order. If God changed His plan in Cornelius' case to prove a point HE IS ALLOWED. HE IS GOD!! As far as Alexander Campbell is concerned, no, I didn't know that he was never baptized, but he is dead. There is nothing that can be done about it. Y O U are still alive! You can do something about it. All I can say, Searcher, is you had better start living up to your name and start searching, rather than accuse someone of lying when everything that is said comes straight from God's word, and don't worry, I forgive you. |

Greetings FTimA! May I interject a couple of points into this discussion? 1) The Greek tenses of Acts 2:38: I'm not going to rehash what I have posted many many times before. I would ask though that you search for my previous posts on this issue and read them. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask! :-) 2) Acts 10: This is the fatal flaw to the argument that one must be baptized in order to be saved. You would have us to believe that those who had "received the gift of the Holy Spirit" (Acts 10:45) were not actually saved as of yet. However, based upon your own interpretation of Acts 2:38, this cannot be true. Why? Because, those who teach that one must be baptized in order to be saved interpret Acts 2:38 as saying that remission of sins is a result of repenting and being baptized. However, Acts 2:38 lists two results 'remission of sins' and reception of 'the gift of the Holy Spirit'. Therefore, based upon your own interpretation of Acts 2:38, those in Acts 10:45 must have already repented and been baptized. Yet, we find that this is not the case at all - according to Acts 10:47-48. I have made this point to numerous proponents of baptismal regeneration, yet not one has been able to respond to it. The evidence in Acts is clear that 2:38 should be read with the phrase 'let each on be baptized' included as an appositional statement. The 'remission of sins' and reception 'of the gift of the Holy Spirit' are the result of repentance alone, not baptism. Until someone from the baptismal regeneration perspective is able to explain away the two result clauses in Acts 2:38, they will forever be demonstrated to be in error by Acts 10. :-) Either both are a result of 'repentance and baptism' or both are a result of 'repentance' alone. There is simply no other option. If the first is true, than Acts 10:44 contradicts Acts 2:38. If the second is true, then Acts 10:44 makes perfect sense - those who had repented (and received remission of sins and the gift of the Holy Spirit) were then urged to be baptized as a result of their salvation, not as a cause of it. p.s. - I hope I didn't sound 'short', but I (and many others) have had to deal with this issue many times before. :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Dear Tim, Amen! Again, your insightful remarks and solid exegesis both clarify and correct. I am amazed at what can be gained from the Greek in terms of nuances.(2 Tim. 2:15)The English translations at times can be lacking. Many doctrinal positions (and errors) are revealed and exposed to the "truth" of Gods' Word. I marvel at the fact that God in His infinite wisdom chose to use a language (Greek) that is very specific in its' meaning. Through its' study we find, not confusion, but further clarity and understanding. Thanks again for your wisdom and the obvious Christ-like character you show forth in the tone of your posts:-) Speaking the Truth In Love, BradK |

Greetings BradK! That is exactly what my Greek professor use to say! :-) Greek in one of, if not the most, specific languages in the history of the world. It was the perfect choice for the New Testament. However, most of these questions can be answered even without a knowledge of the original languages. One simply needs to interpret Scripture in such a way that every verse makes sense. In this particular debate, Eph. 2:8-9, Rom. 4, Gal. 2, and many others should make it perfectly clear that Acts 2:38 does not mean that one must be baptized in order to be saved. The problem is that many will fixate on a particular pet doctrine and then ignore the clear teachings of countless other Scriptures which teach against that pet doctrine. Fortunately, Greek can help in some difficult cases. Personally, I think the Greek construction of Acts 2:38 makes if perfectly clear that 'let each on be baptized' is a parenthetical statement and cannot be associated with the result clauses which go with the command to 'repent'.
