Why is "fornication" not included in the list of sins for the NAS translation? It seems to appear in the original Greek. | ||||||

Greetings Pjg! The Textus Receptus included 'fornication' in Rom. 1:29. However, that reading is not supported by very many manuscripts at all. The only ones which do include it are: L Phi 88 236 330 and 614 - all of which are late dated manuscripts). Since the earliest manuscripts do not include the word, it was most likely added by mistake when 'poneria' was accidently read as 'porneia'. Thus, the newer translations do not include 'fornication' but do include 'iniquity'. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
