1 | How to teach people to hear God's voice? | John 10:4 | Bodie | 137341
Last part of verse says, "they know His voice." My question is how do you teach people to hear His voice so that they know when God is speaking.I talk to a lot of people who are just unsure of whether they hear God or if its their own thinking. Thanks

This is a metaphor. People don't literally hear the voice of Christ any more than they are literally sheep. God's speaks through the scriptures to the saved. Their salvation is evidenced by their obedience to the Word.

Doc, would you rule out entirely the possibility that since Christ's ascension someone, other than Paul, has heard the voice of Christ? Colin |

Greetings, Colin - May I briefly fish in this pond too? :-) I'm not handy at ruling out possibilities, but I tend to be a Berean in the sense that my faith is based solely on what Scripture says. And I'm unaware of any scriptural passage that teaches that Christ communicates with His sheep aurally in these 'last days.' Hebrews 1:2, "In these last days [God] has spoken to us in His Son..." I believe that the context of this passage (see also v.1) when viewed in the broad context of the N.T., supports the exegesis that the written word of the gospel is indicated here. Compare Romans 1:16. And 2 Timothy 3:16 speaks of the sufficiency of Scripture. One must ask why the Scriptures if Christ makes vocal contact to persons individually. .... I must agree with Doc that the language of John 10:4 is metaphoric. --Hank
