1 | Did the Holy Spirit depart from Christ? | Matt 27:46 | EdB | 18981
Absolutely not. Jesus did not die spiritually! This is created theology based on 9 words spoken in passion that happen to be the opening of the messianic prophecy. There is no Biblical proof to support such a supposition. Jesus was God if he had died spiritually then God would have been dead or separated from Himself. Jesus repeated the opening to Psalm 22 to lead any LISTENER to what was taking place. It was His last attempt to open the eyes of the blind and ears of the deaf. We won't know this side of heaven how many people got saved that day by this action. Everyone says God can't look upon sin yet in Job we see the pinnacle of sin Satan standing before God giving an account. Also notice God reaches out to us when we are deepest in sin and despair. If God will call us out of sin wouldn't he stand by His Son? Give me a break! This whole thing of Jesus dying spiritually on the cross is just made up nonsense and if you study you will find it started with some of the most unsavory of preachers. EdB |

2 | Did the Holy Spirit depart from Christ? | Matt 27:46 | Hank | 19017
Ed, I liked your answer and believe it truly reflects both the letter and the spirit of biblical truth. To embrace the absurd belief that Jesus' death on the cross was anything but physical death is ignorance; to teach it is arrogance. At the moment when Jesus took upon Himself the sins of the world, God did forsake Him, but only temporarily. This does not mean, and could not possibly mean, that Jesus Christ died in any spiritual sense. Any heretical doctrine that holds that Jesus died spiritually on the cross or at any other time, would throw the doctrine of the Trinity into chaos. Thanks, Ed, for defending once again the faith. --Hank
3 | Please help the ignorant and arrogant... | Matt 27:46 | Bill Mc | 19038
Then are you both saying that Christ was not separated from His Father? If He was separated from His Father, what does that entail? How did the separation take place? What was the link, is They were separated, that was broken? If God did forsake Him temporarily, what does this mean? What does it mean that God forsook Him if He didn't leave, vacate Christ? I've looked up the word 'forsaken' in my Vines, and it says that it is the strongest form of 'to leave, to abandon.' Any thoughts?
4 | Please help the ignorant and arrogant... | Matt 27:46 | ezekiel | 19040
My friend I think first we must understand who Jesus Christ is. Second part of what we read in this account is a fulfillmen of Prophecy. All of what happens in this passage is the grand design of the Almight God. Mat 27:46 - My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me? (Qee mou, qee mou, ina ti me egkatelipes). Matthew first transliterates the Aramaic, according to the Vatican manuscript (B), the words used by Jesus: El"i, el"i, lema sabachthanei; Some of the MSS. give the transliteration of these words from Psa_22:1 in the Hebrew (Eli, Eli, lama Zaphthanei). This is the only one of the seven sayings of Christ on the Cross given by Mark and Matthew. The other six occur in Luke and John. This is the only sentence of any length in Aramaic preserved in Matthew, though he has Aramaic words like amen, corban, mammon, pascha, raca, Satan, Golgotha. The so-called Gospel of Peter preserves this saying in a Docetic (Cerinthian) form: "My power, my power, thou hast forsaken me!" The Cerinthian Gnostics held that the aeon Christ came on the man Jesus at his baptism and left him here on the Cross so that only the man Jesus died. Nothing from Jesus so well illustrates the depth of his suffering of soul as he felt himself regarded as sin though sinless (2Co_5:21). Joh_3:16 comes to our relief here as we see the Son of God bearing the sin of the world. This cry of desolation comes at the close of the three hours of darkness. Because of the fact that Jesus Christ was God in the flesh. His sinless life, his hatred of sin and the fact of the GREAT BATTLE that was taking place at the cross between Jesus and Satan. Everything that was lost in the Garden of Eden, was regained by the Second Adam, Jesus Christ at Calvary. The veil was rent in twain and Mankind once again has Immeadiate access to God Almighty. By the Blood of Jesus Christ we can be set free. And he who the Son has Set free is free indeed. I hope this helps if not I will try todo a better job next time. Ezekiel |

Interesting points, but If you would please, could you explain the battle at the cross between Jesus and Satan? This is the only part in your thread that isn't very clear to me from scripture, or maybe I have forgotten this part somehow. Yours in Christ, CDBJ
