1 | Is marrying for citizenship real? | Matt 19:5 | rodent_tamer | 182253
What literally took place was this: He confessed he was not a believer, I determined I could not marry a nonbeliever, he agreed that we should not get married, I begged him to reconsider the truth of the gospel as truth and even offered a possibility of working towards restoration with the help of a christian counselor, but after one visit, his decision was basically: "religion was not for him", we went our separate ways and he immediately became involved with another woman as soon as he knew I was not going through with the "genuine" wedding plans. I remained single for years after the break up and after the legal divorce and about a year after our separation he filed for divorce because he received his citizenship (the citizenship process is a lengthy one). I believe the only justifiable reason for divorce, according to the bible, is adultery and desertion. It would follow that under those 2 reasons a divorced person would then be free to remarry. That is, without those 2 reasons, divorce would be a violation to God's law and remarriage considered adultery. Now with that in mind, if my "legal" marriage to this man was actually sanctioned by God, does that mean my "legal" divorce to this man justifiable or permissible by God, since he technically committed "adultery" unbeknownst to either one of us? Am I then to conclude that in God's eyes, he did commit adultery even though neither one of us understood it as such? In other words, even though I didn't feel betrayed, did he indeed betray me since our legal marriage was a binding one in God's sight? So is it safe to conclude that since our legal marriage was a biblically genuine one, would it follow that our legal divorce was a biblically justifiable one as well irregardless of our perceptions of both? What is my standing with God now? Am I free to remarry in good conscience? I hope I have made my spaghetti explanation solid and sound. I apologize to those who have been following my thread for my initial dishonesty by not stating that it was I who I was referring to. Please pray that God reveals His truth to me regarding this matter. My earnest desire is to live rightly before him. humbly yours, monica |

2 | Is marrying for citizenship real? | Matt 19:5 | catjo | 182348
Dear Monica, God is a good God. And I know He wants you to put the past in the past. God is a god of new beginings. Your sins are forgiven as far as the east is from the west. God sent His Son to pay for your sins so Monica you don't have to. Don't allow the accuser of the bretheran (Satan that is) to convince you that your sin was to big for Jesus to pay the cost. As a fellow Christian I implore you to understand that it is your duty to believe you are forgiven if, you truely ask for it from Jesus. Own up to the fact that you did sin, as we all have. Now forgive yourself as well. But, don't try and find a loop hole in the law to justify your sin. In doing so you nulify the forgiving power and mercy of Jesus in your life. The reason I say let "this" sin go, roll it off your shoulders onto Jesus. This is what God wants for you, to be free from sin and it's power. The lord of the flies (Satan) wants you so busy staying in the past pondering on your sin. He wants you to be confused and fellowshipping with your guilt. That way you'll be to busy and ashamed to reach out to God. I wonder in instances like this does Satan say to God, Who do they believe ....Your goodness God or, my lies? Which say, you'll (as in God) never forgive their sin. I believe it blesses God when we believe His word that says, we are redeemed by the power of His Son's blood. What did Jesus say to the woman at the well and, Mary Magdolene? He said, "go and sin no more". This is what you need to do. But, I'd like to put it to you this way. Jesus wanted these woman to live without sin in there life. And that started happening as soon as they recieved forgiveness from Jesus. I don't think Jesus was saying, I expect you to be perfect and never mess up again. Rather it is my belief Jesus making way for these woman to have a release in this area in their life. I would say what Jesus did was; speaking into their life with authority for them to sin no longer. Simular to when God spoke the world into existance. When God said, let their be light. And then there was light. That is what I believe Jesus may have been doing when He spoke, go and sin no more. In other words Jesus was calling these woman out of the sin they were in. With that statement. Just a suggestion for your future: opperate only in the personality of Jesus. Jesus is truth and, Satan is the father of all lies. I agree with one of the prior enteries to let your yes be a yes and, your no be a no. You see Jesus said a house divided will fall. Or, united we and, stand divided we fall. Your mind needs to be united not divided. Not I am married on one hand and, I am not married on the other. Division is the work Satan wants to do in your mind. Because it causes confusion and renders you powerless. Next time Listen to your gut it probably is the Holy Spirit. Start asking God to teach you how to follow the peace...the peace of Jesus.Try to decern between ease and the peace of God. What I mean just because things are easy doesn't necessarily they are from God. Or, if things are hard they may or, may not be from God. Will it give you peace to recieve forgiveness and to trust that God sill has a plan for you and a good out come planned for you as well? I hope you leave this issue at the cross and never question am I forgiven. Monica be blessed. Place God first in all you do and, He will give you the desires of your heart. Who do you think put them their? Just remember God can give you only what He has. So He is not able to give you anything from this world that is not of HIM. |

3 | Is marrying for citizenship real? | Matt 19:5 | justme | 182355
Catjo: Welcome to the Study Bible Forum. In the forum we make every effort to give Scripture when posting. Even when we elude to something that took place and is from the Bible, the person needs to know we are speaking from the authority that comes from Scripture. So, would you please next time state the Scripture that proves your point. Iam conserned that you said " Next time listen to your gut it proberly is the Holy Spirit." The feelings could very well be gas or a belly ache. May I say that the Holy Spirit speaks mainly throgh the Word of God. I have a belief that too many Word of Faith teachers talk from the gut (or their financial needs) and the Holy Spirit has nothing to do with their teaching and or utterances. Most people don't have a ear tuned to the voice of God. Neither do they pray for the will of God to be their focus. The communication between God and human kind is. I believe, limited at best for the average believer. As a Pastor I found most believers were not able to prove in Scripture how they knew they were saved. The reason is that being consistant in the Word and prayer is something the Evil one wants to completely discourage Christians from doing. I encourage you again to use Scripture where evey you can as thats what really cuts like a knife into the very heart of a person. Blessings justme |

4 | Is marrying for citizenship real? | Matt 19:5 | catjo | 182362
I apologize for not having scripture references. I will try to prove all things,(and) hold fast to all things which is (are) good. 1 Thes 5:21. This feeling in the gut I spoke about was in reference to "rodent tamer's" entry from 01/10/07 called; Here are the details of the case. In this entry she says, she had a feeling in her heart. In '80-90's christianese this may have been called a check in the spirit. It seems to me Jesus may be speaking about this in John 7:38 as He says,"He who believes in Me , as the Scripture has said, out of his heart (belly, womb, innermost being) flow rivers of living water." This water seems it might represent the Holy Spirit. So with this being said. I'd like to extrappulate this a little further, by saying the Holy Spirit only speaks God's word. So, if what you hear from your innermost being does not line-up with God's word. Then the word is not from God. However, when "rodent tamer" heard don't do this thing and , she did it anyway. I believe that is what 1 thes. 5:19 meant; Quench not the Holy Spirit. In another words, If you hear from the Holy Spirit and you ignore it. It is like throwing a bucket of water on a fire. In retrospect had "rodent tamer" listened to what I believe was the Holy Spirit. And, then got counsel. She would not be dealing with this dilema. But instead she quenched/drownded out the Holy Spirits tug on her innermost being. My belief is that not all people know the scriptures as well as a pastor or, a seasoned Christian. That is why I believe God uses feelings in our inner most beings so He can get our attention. So we do ask for counsel of those who can point us to the truth of God in His word. I Praise God for all the times I listened to that tug. It has made me turn all the more to the word of God for the truth. So, now when I hear that still small voice I am better learned to decern the truth of my Lord. Because I've searched the scriptures in past times. You are right...."God's word is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, peircing even to the division of the soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts of the heart." Heb. 4:12. God Bless "justme" and all who read this! |
