Greetings Theo, You have asked an interesting question.. The elements in Scripture that seem to suggest that there was a mutiny in heaven and that Satan was once pure before God, being a "guardian" cherub, are found in Isaiah 14:12-17, Ezekiel 28:12-19 and Revelation 12:7-11,3-4. This is the Scriptural support behind the traditional explanation of the origin of Satan and his demons. According to these passages of Scripture, the motivation behind Satan's fall was covetousness of the Power of the Throne. Blessings to you, Nolan |

Another thing Bible fails to mention is when angels were created and when did the fall take place? I've heard creationists say it had to be in the 6 day creation timespan and the fall had to be some time inbetween then and when Adam sinned. What are thoughts on this? | ||||||

Excellent question, Norrie! Here are some verses dealing with the creation of the angels: Genesis 2:1, Nehemiah 9:6 and Colossians 1:16.. Genesis 2:1 "Thus the heavens and the earth were completed, and all their hosts." Angels are immortal (Luke 20:36), elect (1 Tim. 5:21), and interested in earthly affairs (Matt. 24:36; Luke 9:31; 15:7,10; 1 Peter 1:12). God created heaven on the second day (Gen. 1:8), so angels could have been created and active from this point forward. We do know that Satan was directly responsible for the temptation of man, which resulted in the fall of man (Genesis 3). So the fall of Satan himself (and his angels) had to happen at an earlier point (before the fall of man), or at the latest, this point (the fall of man). It is quite possible that the fall of man coincided with the fall of Satan, since Ezekiel 28:13 (which has long been thought to describe the fall of Satan as well as the fall of the King of Tyre) mentions that he was in Eden, the garden of God. But of course, the Bible does not exactly state this in the way that we would find sufficient to quell all speculation surrounding this subject.. Also, we do not know (nor ever will know) the exact amount of time that Adam and Eve spent with God before the fall of humanity occurred. Therefore, the fall of Satan and his angels (Rev. 12) could have happened at any point before the fall of man, and it possibly could have happened even during the occurrence of the fall of man, actually coinciding with the fall of humanity. I hope that you have found this to be a sensible answer! :-) Blessings to you, Nolan |
