281 | Homesexuality? Wrong? | Lev 20:18 | prayon | 93016
Greetings Journey, In a previous answer I stated: Greetings, Strong's dictionary defines "lie" as:A primitive root; to lie down (for rest, sexual connection, decease or any other purpose): - X at all, cast down, ([over-]) lay (self) (down), (make to) lie (down, down to sleep, still, with), lodge, ravish, take rest, sleep, stay (7901). It is very possible that one could twist the meaning of the word "lie" to fit their need, however, I refer you to 1Cor 6:9-10: "Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, """"""""nor homosexuals,"""""""""" nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. Lev 18:22 Never have sexual intercourse with a man as with a woman. It is disgusting. (God's Word) I don't think it can be made much plainer than this. Another proof that adultry is a sin is found in Rom 1:27 - Likewise, their men have given up natural sexual relations with women and burn with lust for each other. Men commit indecent acts with men, so they experience among themselves the punishment they deserve for their perversion. Yet another proof can be found in 1Tim 1:10 - 1Ti 1:10 Laws are intended for people involved in sexual sins, for homosexuals, for kidnappers, for liars, for those who lie when they take an oath, and for whatever else is against accurate teachings. Here Paul likens them to kidnappers and liars. In addition Gen 19 tells the story of Sodom and Gomorrah. All the male citizens of Sodom wanted Lot to send out the angels so that they could have sex with them. Lot called them evil. The bible has been quite clear on the subject of homosexuality. Those who practice it are blinded to the Word of God and walk with the unrighteous. You can find much more by typing "homosexual" into the search window. prayon |

282 | Literal or Not? | Matt 19:4 | prayon | 92933
Greetings journey, You asked how do we distinguish metaphors, parables, and symbols. May I recommend a book by R.C. Sproul "Knowing Scripture". It goes through all the principles of bible interpretation. Throughout the bible all symbols have the same meaning. When applying the principles it helps to give you a much deeper and easier understanding. prayon |

284 | How should a Christian view the Old Test | Romans | prayon | 92711
The old testament should also be viewed as a learning tool. It can help us to understand the new covenant we are under. For example, the OT tells us why Jesus had to die the way he died. prayon |

285 | SHOULD CHRISTIANS EAT PORK AND SEAFOOD? | Ezek 22:26 | prayon | 92653
Greetings Lorranbow, Acts 9:23 tells us of a vision that Peter: The next day, as they went on their journey and drew near the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray, about the sixth hour. Then he became very hungry and wanted to eat; but while they made ready, he fell into a trance and saw heaven opened and an object like a great sheet bound at the four corners, descending to him and let down to the earth. In it were all kinds of four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, creeping things, and birds of the air. And a voice came to him, “Rise, Peter; kill and eat.” But Peter said, “Not so, Lord! For I have never eaten anything common or unclean.” And a voice spoke to him again the second time, “What God has cleansed you must not call common.” This was done three times. And the object was taken up into heaven again. These verses are believed to release us from eating that which was unclean in Lev and Deu. prayon |

286 | sharp tongues | Eph 6:19 | prayon | 92652
Greetings Brad, Here are some additional verses: Psa 64:3-6 Sharp tongues are the swords they wield; bitter words are the arrows they aim. They shoot from ambush at the innocent, attacking suddenly and fearlessly. They encourage each other to do evil and plan how to set their traps. “Who will ever notice?” they ask. As they plot their crimes, they say, “We have devised the perfect plan!” Yes, the human heart and mind are cunning. Prov 17:20 He who has a deceitful heart finds no good, And he who has a perverse tongue falls into evil. Pro 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit. Pro 21:23 Whoever guards his mouth and tongue Keeps his soul from troubles. prayon |

288 | Searching for the truth | Lev 18:22 | prayon | 92299
Greetings FytRobert, It is absolutely NOT in line with the Word! The strongest word the bible uses in the negative sense is abomination. Lev 18:22 tells us that for a man to lie with a woman it is an abomination tp the Lord. I really wonder how they can ignore that part of the word of God. prayon |

289 | who/what are the twelve tribes? | Gen 49:28 | prayon | 92095
Greetings Teemac and welcoe to the forum, The 12 tribes of Israel originated with the 10 of the 11 sons of Jacob. Joseph, his 11th son was given a double portion. Because of this the last 2 members of the tribes were his two sons Ephraim and Manassas. Each son was given a different prophetic message from Jacob (see Gen 49). Each person became the head of a tribe that was given a different allotment of land when they reached the promised land except for Levi who became head of the priests and were not given any land. prayon |

290 | Describe Jesus in Matt and John. | NT general Archive 1 | prayon | 91702
Greetings Jaanie and welcome to the forum. Each gospel portrays Jesus in a different way. Matthew which was written about 60 AD presents Jesus as the might king and emphasizes the power of Christ. It is a teaching gospel and portays Jesus as a lion (see Eze 1:10). The book ends with His resurrection. Mark is believed to be the first gospel written about 58AD. I presents Jesus as an obedient servant and emphasizes the service of Christ. It is a narrative gospel full of action. It portrays Jesus as a ox and the book ends with the ascension. Luke was written after Matthew and presents Jesus as the ideal Son of Man. It emphasizes the sympathy of Christ and is carefully documented. It portrays Jesus as a man and ends with the coming of the Holy Spirit. John was the last gospel written about 98 AD. It presents Jesus as the divine Son of God and emphasizes the wisdom of Christ. It is the spiritual gospel and portrays Jesus as an eagle. It ends with the return of Jesus to earth. Matthew, Mark and Luke are called the synoptic gospels and take a common view of the life of Christ emphasizing the His humanity. John's gospel emphasizes His diety. Hope this helps. prayon |

291 | Luke, Jesus, and the good theif | Luke 23:40 | prayon | 91379
Greetings Kimberly, Actually it does not say that the thief would be with Jesus in heaven, it says Jesus said to the thief "today you will be with me in paradise". These are 2 different places. John 20:17 tells us the Jesus said to Mary Magdalene "Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to my Father", which means He had not gone to heaven so he could not of taken the good thief there. Paradise is part of Abraham's bosom. Luke tells us that the rich man who went to Hades saw Abraham and cried for Abraham to have mercy on him. This again proving that Paradise is not heaven. In Jewish theology Paradise is the department of Hades where the blessed souls await the resurrection. prayon |

292 | what is the lords supper? | Matt 26:26 | prayon | 91373
Greetings Lisakb and welcome to the forum, The Lord's supper is also known as the Last Supper, Communion, or the Lord's table. In the early Church it was called also “Eucharist,” or giving of thanks. It was the last evening meal that Jesus ate with His apostles. The gospel accounts tell us that this was the passover meal. The account of the institution of this ordinance is given in Mat_26:26-29, Mar_14:22-25, Luk_22:19, Luk_22:20, and 1Co_11:24-26. It is not mentioned by John. It was designed, 1. To commemorate the death of Christ: “This do in remembrance of me.” 2. To signify, seal, and apply to believers all the benefits of the new covenant. In this ordinance Christ ratifies his promises to his people, and they on their part solemnly consecrate themselves to him and to his entire service. 3. To be a badge of the Christian profession. 4. To indicate and to promote the communion of believers with Christ. 5. To represent the mutual communion of believers with each other. The elements used to represent Christ's body and blood are bread and wine. The kind of bread, whether leavened or unleavened, is not specified. Christ used unleavened bread simply because it was at that moment on the paschal table. Wine, and no other liquid, is to be used (Mat_26:26-29). Believers “feed” on Christ's body and blood, 1. not with the mouth in any manner, but 2. by the soul alone, and 3. by faith, which is the mouth or hand of the soul. This they do 4. by the power of the Holy Ghost. This “feeding” on Christ, however, takes place not in the Lord's Supper alone, but whenever faith in him is exercised. This is a permanent ordinance in the Church of Christ, and is to be observed “till he come” again. (Eerdman's Bible Dictionary). There were many important things that happened as Jesus ate with His apostles. They include: 1. Betrayal by Judas 2. institution of Communion 3.opportunity to say farewell to Jesus and show their sorrow 4)promise ofresurrection and the kingdom 5) Washing of the disciples feet by Jesus prayon |

294 | Where does it tell us not to sin? | Rom 12:1 | prayon | 91351
Greetings kingi, The whole bible tells us not to sin. To tell you where a particular verse is I would need to know what type of sin you want a verse for. It is true that Jesus will forgive you for your sins, but in order to be forgiven you must be repentent (change the way you think and act) of the sin you committed. If you continue to commit that sin then you are not repentent and not forgiven. Romans 12:1 tells us that we are to present or surrender our bodies as a living sacrifice. This means that we must put away our old ways and take on the ways of Christ. Rom 12:2 says "Don't become like the people of this world. Instead, change the way you think. Then you will always be able to determine what God really wants-what is good, pleasing, and perfect." If we continue in sin we are none of these. prayon |

295 | Still not convinced | Matt 16:6 | prayon | 91349
Greetings 4givn, You are correct in saying that it has to do with spiritual healing, the Hebrew word for transgressions is Pesha. Pesha means a revolt (national, moral or religious): - rebellion, sin, transgression, trespassive(6588). It is also described as to break away (from just authority), that is, trespass, apostatize, quarrel: - offend, rebel, revolt, transgress (6586) Essentially it is a breach of relationship; Man / Sin relationship breached spiritually - Make Him Lord and breach restored. In the first line of this passage we see the word griefs. Griefs in Hebrew is kholily which means malady, anxiety, calamity: - disease, grief, (is) sick (-ness)(2483). This is talking about the physical body. Again in the next verse it addresses spiritual healing. The word iniquities (avon in Hebrew) means perversity, that is, (moral) evil: - fault, iniquity, mischief, punishment (of iniquity), sin (5771) or properly a part of; hence (prepositionally), from or out of in many senses: - above, after, among, at, because of, by (reason of), from (among), in, X neither, X nor, (out) of, over, since, X then, through, X whether, with (4480). The last line also talks of physical healing. The word healed (by His stripes we are healed) in Hebrew is rapha which means A primitive root; properly to mend (by stitching), that is, (figuratively) to cure: - cure, (cause to) heal, physician, repair, X thoroughly, make whole (7495). Jesus had 39 lashes and there are 39 different categories of diseases today, Interesting isn't it. The middle 2 lines of each verse (carried our sorrows and chastised for our peace both have to do with the mind or soul. Sorrows or makob, means anguish or (figuratively) affliction: - grief, pain, sorrow, eomtional pain and suffering. (4341). And peace or shalom of course means peace, prosperity, wellness, safeness, completeness, or wholeness (7965). Once we are reconciled with God we have peace and wholeness. Hope this gives you a better understanding. prayon |

297 | lev. 8:8 info on urim thurim | Ex 28:30 | prayon | 90931
Greetings cmackey and welcome to the forum. The Strongs Dictionary of Greek and Hebrew words defines Urim (224) as lights, the oracular brilliancy. Thummim (8550) is defined as perfections, and is as emblem of complete Truth. We are not told how God revealed His will through the Urim and Thummim, but it evidently left no question in the High Priests mind of God's will in the matter. This is why the breastplate is known as the breastplate of Judgement. Urim and Thummim were a combination that represented God's perfect balance: balancing perception with forbearance, justice with pardon, judgement with mercy. All these perfections are manifested in Christ. In Christ we have the lights and the perfections of which Urim and Thummim were only a foreshadow. prayon |

298 | Whats going on in Song of Solomon | Song of Solomon | prayon | 90725
Greetings, In addition to what Jesusman wrote it is interesting to note that the Jews read this book at the Passover feast. They believe that it is an allegory of the love relationship between God and Israel. This book is said to have more interpretations than any other book of the bible. They are: 1) Linked chain of lyrics depicting love in all its spontaneity, beauty, power, and exclusiveness -- experienced in its varied moments of seperation and intimacy, anguish and ectasy, tension and contentment. (Pr 5:15-20; 6:24-29, 7:6-23) 2) Triumph of a maiden's pure love for her shepherd lover over Solomon who sought to win her for his royal harem 3) Solomon visits her in the disguise of a shepherd and wins her love, He then comes in all his royal splender and asks her to leave Lebanon and become his queen. 4) An allegory as mentioned above 5) An allegory of the love relationship between Christ and the church, although the NT nowhere quotes from or alludes to the song (except perhaps Eph 5:31-32) prayon |
