AMPLIFIED 2015 | Exodus 28:30 "In the breastpiece of judgment you shall put the Urim (Lights) and the Thummim (Perfections) [to be used for determining God's will in a matter]. They shall be over Aaron's heart whenever he goes before the LORD, and Aaron shall always carry the judgment (verdict, judicial decisions) of the sons of Israel over his heart before the LORD. |
Bible Question: the urim thurim mentioned in lev 8:8, what is it and what does it represent? |
Bible Answer: Greetings cmackey and welcome to the forum. The Strongs Dictionary of Greek and Hebrew words defines Urim (224) as lights, the oracular brilliancy. Thummim (8550) is defined as perfections, and is as emblem of complete Truth. We are not told how God revealed His will through the Urim and Thummim, but it evidently left no question in the High Priests mind of God's will in the matter. This is why the breastplate is known as the breastplate of Judgement. Urim and Thummim were a combination that represented God's perfect balance: balancing perception with forbearance, justice with pardon, judgement with mercy. All these perfections are manifested in Christ. In Christ we have the lights and the perfections of which Urim and Thummim were only a foreshadow. prayon |
