Bible Question:
Why was this medium able to bring Samuel from the holding place? Any observations apprecciated. God bless |
Bible Answer: First of all it was forbidden by God and against the law according to the kingdom, that anyone should call up the dead to speak with them. This offence was punishable by death. This is why the witch was so distraught when Samuel acutally appeared and was manifested. Somehow, at the same time, it was revealed to her that the man before her was the king - and this meant that she was uncovered as a witch before the ultimate prosecutor of the law. I do not believe that she was actually able to summon Samuel. I believe this was a deliberate act of God as the witch was very shocked (she cried out). It seems God was quite angry with Saul. First of all he had been appointed to uphold the law and lead the people and he was committing one of the ultimate crimes. And in this case, Samuel did act as he had for Saul before, to give him direction according to the word of God. In this case, the king and his family was cursed and he was told a terrible future. We are not to ask the specific future. Though He may give us a glimpse, we should not expect Him to unfold the details to us. We are supposed to trust Him day by day (Matthew 6:28-29) Saul, having been selected to lead the people and to uphold the law had failed miserably and I believe he was set at a higher standard according to his great calling and responsibility and God decided he would not continue in this important role, and neither would his descendants. These are my feelings on the topic. I will be interested to see what anyone else may think regarding this interesting moment in Scripture. Itiswritten. |
