Bible Question: God is a God of love, but is he also a God of hate? I ask this because of 1 Sam. 15:3. It says, " now go and attack Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and do not spare them. But kill both man and woman, infant and nursing child, ox and sheep, camel and donkey." God's commandment to Saul to kill the infants and nursing children seems like a lack of love, but I have always been taught that God loves everyone(John 3:16). This seems very contradicting. Can someone please explain? |
Bible Answer: 5pointer Welcome to the forum. God is a God of love but that does not make Him any less than just. He did not destroy the Amalek because of hate but out of justice. He is God. God told them not to have idols and they turned their backs on Him and said we will do as we please. That is sin. God proclaimed sin brings death. In the spirit of justice God carried out the punishment for the crime they had committed. Hate would have been to allow them to live in rebellion without the love of God. EdB |
