Bible Question:
Besides the KJV, is there any other version that translates pascha as Easter instead of Passover? I've looked at the NIV, NLT, NKJV, NASB, AMPLIFIED, and the NIrV which all translate it as Passover. |
Bible Answer: Hi, Brad... The Authorized Version translates it as Easter in Acts 12:4, which is the only time it is used. I also find it in the King James, the Message, and the Millennium Bible. Where do you find it in the NASB and Amplified? I am given to understand that Wycliffe and Tyndale both had this problem in their translations. Apparently in their day the term Passover did not exist in English. Wycliffe solved the problem by simply transliterating the word. Tyndale used the word Easter. The term Passover came into English in the mid 16th century. Now that it is commonly understood, it seems remiss to use Easter instead of Passover. In Him, Doc |
