Bible Note: Dear WannaB That is a good point, But Jesus does qualify His statement in, Matt 11:14 "And if you are willing to accept it, John himself is Elijah who was to come. Note that He says, "if you are willing to accept it" Then He follows it up with, and I'll skip down one verse, Matt 11:16 "But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the market places, who call out to the other children, 17 and say, 'We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn." That is to say, that they were, [speaking of that, "generation"] acting as little children who were not happy with the game that the other children were playing, spoiled brats, if you please, who would 'not' accept what was being offered to them. In other words they did 'not accept' that it was Eligah, so... it wasn't. It is vital to read the verses we think may say one thing IN CONTEXT to see if that is really what they are saying, as in these verses which are often misunderstood. God bless John |
