Subject: A prophet |
Bible Note: Dear F.o.o.t, Thank you for your input. By the end of 2007, I had the privilege to attend a short (very short indeed, just an hour or so) seminar of Dr. J.R. Lundbom's study on "Jeremiah's New Covenant for the Church and the World". In his handout note he wrote "A century earlier, Isaiah had expanded the Davidic covenant to include Jerusalem adn the Temple, preaching that Zion was inviolable (Isa 31:4-5, 37:33-35), but now Jeremiah considers this a false theology upon which people are resting vain hopes. Von Rad therefore says the prophetic message is not timeless truth, but a 'particular word relevant to a particular hour in history.'" Therefore, we may see that the contemporary prophets of Jeremiah's were talking about peace, peace, peace while in fact the invasion by Babylon was close at hand as prophesied by Jeremiah in contrast to their beliefs.
