Bible Question: I am currently testing this sight as I have found it hard to find a sight that does not end up in debate over perspective. I enjoyed the responses here of love towards those who answered less than gracefully. So, Here goes. In 2003 I retired from mil/gov work on disability. I have been married up-to this posting; 33 years, 4 children and 11 grandchildren. In 2012 I was in a motorcycle accident that left me in a coma for about a month with a traumatic brain injury, shattered clavicle and 13 breaks in 10 ribs. While in the comma I developed several infections due to the punctured lung. I was placed on life support and my family was in debate and confusion over why it was being allowed. Prior to the accident I stated I did not believe in nor did I want, Life support. To see the blessings and the healing power of God through this ordeal I change my position on this. My family, friends, Pastor and brothers and sisters in Christ were by my side within 4 hours of the accident. In the coma, I heard their prayers as if they were coming from above. My view now is that God is in control and if He chooses to take you home, then man's procedures won't keep you here. If God chooses to keep you on earth, staying off life support won't contribute to your death. I do have limitations resulting from the accident, but I am ahead of the expected recovery time that the doctors predicted. Now my question to this forum is "What is your biblical view on life support when deemed medically required." |
Bible Answer: The subject is not addressed in scripture but Scripture does stress the importance of life. I think there are two situations one you addressed or lived through where life support was required to keep you alive while your body healed. I think in this case life support is mandatory and required. The other case is where to be the best of man's knowledge the body is not going to heal or improve. That the coma or vegetative state will be the person's state until death. I think then this decision is the persons or his family. Frankly I do not want to live if I'm not able to serve God (such as being in a coma). I would rather be home with Him and in His presence. |
