Bible Question: What does God bless you really mean? we use so quickly when someone sneeze. is it right? |
Bible Answer: Hi, simplyjoy... Welcome to the forum! The practice of saying "God bless you" when someone sneezes has its roots in Medieval superstition -- maybe even older than that! It was thought that when a person sneezed, the soul momentarily left the body, rendering it open to capture by the devil. Needless to say, this is not an idea found in Scripture! I rather like the German expression "Gesundheit!" instead, as it is simply an expression of hope that the sneezer be healthy! :-) In Him, Doc |
