Subject: verse about devil's insignificance |
Bible Note: Hi Doc, I've been wondering whether what you describe is what happened ie...the impression stuck while the actual text flew away! The impression I got many years back was just as you said (quote)"THAT was what everyone was so worried about???" Funny though, someone mentioned the text to me just a year or so ago and I don't recall it being this one in Isaiah. Seems it was more concise but it is probably just as you speculated. And yes this is, I think, indicating the king of Babylon but as a type and shadow of things to come. At any rate, Jesus Himself was fond of quoting Isaiah and the old prophet was pointing to the cross where quoted by the Lord. So I too am not uncomfortable interpreting this verse as pointing to the defeat and exposure of the deceiver as little more than a self inflated liar. Thanks for the good input! Brian |
