Bible Answer: Dear Larry, If you mean ministry in general, then that is an obligation of every member of the church (Gal 6:2). Every member ought to minister to every other member of the church. If you mean ministry in the sense of a position of authority in the local congregation: Christ is the Head of the church (Col 1:18). The Lord does the calling (Mat 28:18-20). He fully equips the congregation to carry out the proper order of worship and discipline (1 Cor 5:4-5). Their job is to recognize His calling out of a particular person (Acts 14:23; 1 Timothy 4:14; Acts 6:3, 5, 6), which thing appears to be normative in scripture by the common suffrage (i.e., voting) of the church.
