Bible Answer: Hi, Sarha... Welcome to the forum! Context is always a chief concern. We can't even communicate without context! We are only foolish to try to interpret anything independently of context. The next time someone quotes that particular aphorism by Shakespeare, remind him that the melancholy Dane was talking about Denmark. As Christians we don't live by the word of Shakespeare, we live by the word of God (Hebrews 1:1-2) -- the primary object of our forum. No matter how hard we imagine that 2 plus 2 is 5, it will remain just as truly 4. No matter how hard we imagine that 2 plus 2 is 4, it will remain just as truly 4. Truth is not effected by minds. Truth effects minds. Truth is not generated by minds. Truth is apprehended by minds. In spite of all the silliness being taught out there by the Peales, Schulers, Copelands, and Osteens of the world -- or those that claim some kind of superior experiential spiritualism -- the fundamental presupposition of Christianity is that truth is propositional. It flows out of the very nature of the whole of special revelation, arising verbally from our God (see post #195945). Furthermore, all of God's truth is rational. That doesn't mean that finite humans can (now or in the future) grasp all of God's truth -- He doesn't even share but a minuscule portion of truth with us (Deuteronomy 29:29). But we know that everything from God is and always will be rational, for that is an integral part of His nature. In Him, Doc |
