Bible Note: Dear Ed, I don't think that the differing views are so much an issue on the Forum as is building doctrine on a metaphor used poetically in Psalms (Ps 69:28a). The other references in Revelation do not shed more light on the question -- nor does the single other reference in Pilemon 4:3. Clearly these references are idiomatic and would be understood as references to the Redeemed. We can also understand erasures (blotting out) and insertions -- all typified in records of lineage kept in the Temple. Neither Arminian or Calvinist would deem it wise to build doctrine on figures of speech. Consequently, the doctrines are built on didactic teaching; subsequent to that the figures of speech are understood within the doctrinal position. In Him, Doc |
