Bible Question: How can this answer be true if you read Romans 8:38-39. As I see it you do not need to seek forgiveness. Almost everybody that dies ( for instance in a car crash ) have sinned since they last pray for forgiveness therefore almost everybody dies without a chance to ask for forgiveness of their most recent sins. |
Bible Answer: Hi, Cas... Preston's perspective does represent orthodox Christian doctrine. Here is how my own confession of faith asserts the doctrine: "Although the price of redemption was not actually paid by Christ till after His incarnation, yet the virtue, efficacy, and benefit thereof were communicated to the elect in all ages, successively from the beginning of the World, in and by those promises, Types, and Sacrifices wherein He was revealed, and signified to be the Seed of the Woman, which should bruise the Serpent’s head; and the Lamb slain from the foundation of the World, being the same yesterday, and to-day and for ever. (1 Corinthians 4:10; Hebrews 4:2; 1 Peter 1:10, 11; Revelation 13:8; Hebrews 13:8)" --1689 LBCF (chapter 8, paragraph 6) Doctrine is defined as everything the Scripture has to say on a given topic. Think of orthographic projections in diagrams. One perspective gives you essential information, but you need all the perspectives to rightly interpret the nature of the object. Sound doctrine is always derived from the whole of Scripture. You might be interested in reading about the analogy of faith (http://www.theopedia.com/Analogy_of_faith). In Him, Doc |
