Bible Question: Why is wisdom referred to as HER? |
Bible Answer: In addition to these good answers, I'm thinking a big reason for thinking of wisdom as feminine, especially for us men is the elusive quality of wisdom. I know she has eluded me all of my life except when I married my wife. Prov 2:1 My son, if you receive my words, And treasure my commands within you, 2 So that you incline your ear to wisdom, And apply your heart to understanding; 3 Yes, if you cry out for discernment, And lift up your voice for understanding, 4 If you seek her as silver, And search for her as for hidden treasures; 5 Then you will understand the fear of the Lord, And find the knowledge of God. 6 For the Lord gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding; At least, it's been my experience that knowledge comes somewhat easy. One has to work a little harder to gain understanding, especailly some of the complexities of life, you know the conundrums. But most elusive of all is wisdom. Even Solomon had a little difficulty applying wisdom to his own life. So we pursue wisdom to the end of our days and count ourselves Blessed to die in the Lord with His Name on our lips. Believe me, I know. I've had my "brush with death" and it was just a bit premature. Makes one take a "pause for the cause," and slow down a bit to appreciate life. As always, Go with God in all His Ways, Bill |
