Bible Question: I asked Jesus into my heart at the age of six. Currenlty I am 23. About a year and a half ago I began backsliding and was living a very sinful life. I started drinking a little bit, and then I let alcohol almost consume my life. I started sleeping with a few different men and before I knew it, I realized what a stupid life I was living. I quickly repented of my sins and turned back towards Jesus, who was waiting for me all along. Was that "phase" (or whatever it was) normal? Why would a Christian do such things? I am so humbled by the awful life that I led for a year or so straight. But I have turned back to God and never want to do anything like that again. |
Bible Answer: In support of Lionheart's good answer, I thought I'd throw in some scripture. It's always a pleasure to converse with a fellow backslider. In some ways, I'm thinking almost all of us christians are in that category. Gal 6:1 Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. 2 Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. 3 For if anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. 4 But let each one examine his own work, and then he will have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another. 5 For each one shall bear his own load. 1 Pet 4:7 But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers. 8 And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.” 9 Be hospitable to one another without grumbling. 10 As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. 11 If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen. I'm so thankful for teamwork; my wife is the one who helps the Lord in keeping me on the straight and narrow. We all slip up now and again but Thanks be God, we can repent ever day and stay in God's Light by asking forgiveness. 1 John 1:5 This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us. Go with God in all His Ways and He'll Bless you, dear friend, Bill |
