Bible Question: Is there a chart of OT parallels? I have the Gospels; 2 Peter w/ Jude; and the three descriptions of Paul's conversion in Acts. I need something similar for Chronicles, Samuel, Kings, etc. Thank you. |
Bible Answer: One of the more famous "foreshadows" from the OT was depicted by Noah and his family in his ark, comparing the church, not of the world but in the world of sin. Notice the one single entrance, and the one single avenue of getting information through the window. Of what does this remind you? The animals all inside getting along with each other. The water outside (sin) trying to break into the inside with the rain falling down imitating the worries of the world. The pitch in between the boards of lumber keeping the boat together just like Christ keeps us together with His Prayer of Unity. Yes, many parallels. Then there's Moses rescuing the nation of Israel from Egypt just like Christ rescues us from the world of sin. Moses even intervened and prevented God from destroying that same nation just like Jesus is our Advocate for us to God's Judgment Bar of Perfect Justice. Ad lib: "Father, he/she is one of Mine; they're good to go into Heaven." The blessing of Jacob instead of Esau was from God from the very beginning of his life, before Jacob left the womb. Jacob finally got the point in blessing Joseph's second son instead of his first. Just like we see from God in... 1 Cor 3:18 Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you seems to be wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise. 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, “He catches the wise in their own craftiness”; 20 and again, “The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile.” 21 Therefore let no one boast in men. Who would have ever thought of a Perfect Leader of all mankind to be born in a manger (cattle feed bin) and then sentenced in a mockery of a trial and executed in man's most painful and wicked way to die? God did; in His Way of turning the world's thinking on its ear. Jesus said it best in... Luke 22:25 And He said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them, and those who exercise authority over them are called ‘benefactors.’ 26 But not so among you; on the contrary, he who is greatest among you, let him be as the younger, and he who governs as he who serves. 27 For who is greater, he who sits at the table, or he who serves? Is it not he who sits at the table? Yet I am among you as the One who serves. But in answer to your basic question, I know of no such "Chart of OT Parallels." The comparisons above are some of those I've heard all my life in various sermons. You might search the Internet for a book or an article on such a topic. Go with God in all things, Bill |
