Bible Question: I've been taught that 2 Thes. 2:7 is talking about the removal of the Holy Spirit before the great tribullation, How is that possible knowing that Rev.7:14 states there is a great multitude saved which came out of the great tribulation? Wouldn't the Holy Spirit have to be present for that to happen? |
Bible Answer: Greetings and welcome to the forum. It’s impossible to remove God since it would be in opposition to His essence, one of which is omnipresent or being everywhere at the same time. It’s also wrong to assume that it is the church since the grammatical structure places the restrainer in the masculine gender and the church is always designated in the feminine gender. There is another solution that you might want to consider for the one that will be ordered to stop restraining during the period just before the last 3 and ½ years which is the time spoken of by Christ in the following; Matthew 24:21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. Compare that verse with this section of verses. Daniel 12:1-4 And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book. 2And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. 3And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever. 4But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased. From my perspective the one doing the restraining is the job of Michael the archangel. Those periods of time all coincide with the following when the antichrist is given free reign to perform at his will “against the elect” of God. Rev. 13:5-7 And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months. 6And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven. 7And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations. Matthew 24:22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened. I hope this helps, CDBJ |
