Subject: Is Jesus and God the same? |
Bible Note: Yes, Ps 83, I understand about what JW's teach, That [men] may know that thou, whose name alone [is] JEHOVAH, [art] the most high over all the earth. In response to your question of, 'how is it possible for Jesus to pray to himself' Have you ever heard of the hypostatic union? What this means, is: Jesus is God in human flesh. He is not half God and half man. He is fully divine and fully man. That is, Jesus has two distinct natures: divine and human. Jesus is the Word who was God and was with God and was made flesh, (John 1:1,14). This means that in the single person of Jesus is both a human and divine nature. The divine nature was not changed. It was not altered. He is not merely a man who "had God within Him" nor is he a man who "manifested the God principle." He is God, second person of the Trinity. "The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word," (Heb. 1:3, NIV). Jesus' two natures are not "mixed together," nor are they combined into a new God-man nature. They are separate yet act as a unit in the one person of Jesus. This is called the Hypostatic Union. Jesus prayed to the Father because as a man, under the Law (Gal. 4:4), he needed to pray to the Father. The Bible teaches that he was both God and man (Col. 2:9; John 8:58 with Ex. 3:14). Also, Jesus has two natures. Therefore, we will see two types of scripture concerning Jesus: those that seem to focus on His divine-side, and those that seem to focus on His human-side. The Jehovah's Witnesses are simply ignoring, or changing, the divine-side scriptures and concentrating on those that describe His human-side. But that does not make those verses any less valid. See Hypostatic Union (at carm.org) for information on the two natures of Jesus. If you go there, you are also able to find why JW teachings are in error, by simply typing in 'cults' on the home page. Then click the link to Jehova Witnesses. I could go on, about many of your comments, such as: 'firstborn over all creation' The mistranslation of the word, 'firstborn' is the problem, and proves the doctrine to be false.. But I won't continue with that here... May our Lord bless you as you seek His truth |
