Bible Question: Is there anywhere to go to find the "minutes" of the NASB editorial board as to the decison to translate a specific word a specific way? I am specifically interested in the word "doulos" (Strongs #1401) where it is commonly the word "slave" but almost all translations have it as "servant" or "bond-servant". I would find great value in hearing (or reading) any discussions that the translators had regarding this decision. I'm sure that their decision was a well reasoned one, but I can not come up with one myself. |
Bible Answer: Dear Hopper, Welcome to the forum! Most like it has to do with context. If you are interested in the specific deliberations about how to translate one particular word over another, one of the best places I know is the NET Bible. The translation notes are some of the best I have seen -- not that I have any particular expertise in that area, just an observation. Check it out: http://net.bible.org/bible.php In Him, Doc |
