Bible Note: Michael, I just recently found out that Sefer Torahs are done by hand with a quill pen, and just the books of Moses can take 18 months to do and run at the least expensive about 1900 dollars. Sefer means counter - they actually physically count every letter to make sure it is absolutely perfect. If the page isn't, they totally re-do the whole page (even 2 letters touching each other disqualifies it!!). A Haftorah scroll is larger, so would probably cost a lot more. Even purchasing a repaired scroll is a major investment. But wouldn't it be wonderful to have one?? (And depending how old the repaired scroll is, and where it is from, it can run as much as 30,000 dollars or more.) Shalom Cheri |
