Bible Question:
I just talked to a friend, who is a paramedic. She was telling me all the terrible things she sees happen to people, and that there isnt a God.I dont feel this way, but what can I say to her? Lynda Lewis |
Bible Answer: Hello Lynda, There are several ways of addressing this--some more complicated than others. Here are some: 1. For instance, there is a story told that Napoleon Bonaparte came upon some of his soldiers one evening on a battlefield who were discussing the existence of God. They asked the general if he believed in God. Napoleon pointed to the stars and said, "If there is no God, who made all that?" I don't know if the story is true, but Scripture plainly says that people can know about God (not everything) from nature (Psalm 19; Romans 1). 2. The fact that your friend has moral outrage about evil in the world is proof of God. If there was no God, there would be no standard of morality to be outraged about. 3. We expect evil in the world because all have sinned (Romans 3:10-18). Why would we expect any differently? Steve |
