Subject: Jude quotes Enoch? |
Bible Note: Dear Mark, Thank you for providing further feedback to my original question. Perhaps, I could have worded the question better. Your answer is probably the most succinct and accurate in terms of replying to the intent of my question. Essentially, I was asking if Jude was referring to another part of the Bible that I may have (inadvertently and apparently) missed. However, interestingly and unintentionally, via the previous responses to my question--I was also reminded of the "under-the-surface" issue (among some believers or bible scholars) touching on the question of the inspiration of the book of Jude itself. I had more-or-less forgotten about that topic, as well as not recalling the existence of the group of writings sometimes referred to psuedographical (sp?). It has been a long time since I first heard of those "other" writings, as well the possible (debabteable) connection with the book of Jude of the so-called Book of Enoch. Also, though knowing some of the character and person of Enoch, I am not aware of quotes from him found anywhere else, except in Jude. I thought some other references might be found say, in one of the Major or Minor prophets, for example. Here, where I'm currenltly living, access to commentaries and other biblical helps is somewhat lacking. Though I hope to change this soon. Too, the actual apparent quote from Enoch is quite interesting, and thus I'd be interested in reading more, assuming the quote was or is taken from a longer piece that, in fact, exists in writing. I don't know of any such piece of writing, thus the question. Finally, having done a fair bit of reading and research on the exact chronology of persons listed (as far as what is known, from Genesis) from Adam to Noah, and beyond, I am always interested in trying to learn more details of the life and thinking of this otherwise somewhat mysterious person--Enoch. Thanks again for the coherent, clearly worded response. That's what I was looking for. A brother in Christ (in Japan) Walter, aka WestOfCA |
