Bible Question: Does the word "Repent" have the same meaning in the Old Testament as in the New? |
Bible Answer: Hi Rusty.com, In the Old Testament, the Hebrew word used of man's repentance is "shub" (shoob), and means to turn. This is to turn away from wrong actions, from sins. In the New Testament, the Greek work is "metanoia", and this means to change your mind. These are in keeping with the Old Testament giving a covenant of works, and is focused on actions, while the New Testament covenant brings an internal change. I hope this helps! Love in Christ, Mark |
