Bible Question:
The other day a lady wrote a question regarding the role of women in church. On tv the news compared the election of an openly-gay bishop to a similar scandal involving the appointment of the first female bishop. I was wondering why would a woamn bishop bring about a threat of separation between the episcopalan and anglican church. Then I cam accross 1 Cor 14:34-35 [34]Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law [35] And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church. Saith what law? Is this strictly for those who are under the law? Are women under Grace permitted to speak in church? Can somone explain this to me? Are women allowed to be leaders in church or not? The scriptures clearly say no. Why are women required to be silent and seek knowledge from their husbands? I am not trying to be sexist, I am trying to understand how we can justify having women preachers, bishops, and etc if it is against the scriptures. |
Bible Answer: It is because they was learning and did not have the knowledge that their husbands had. It was common in that day for the men to have the education and knowledge of scripture.Of course there were exceptions. |
