Bible Question:
Hi JCrichton, I was reading through this thread and although this has nothing to do with the topic, I was just curious as to what you mean by "the Jesus formula (70x7)".. I've never heard of it before |
Bible Answer: Hello, JGA216! The Jesus formula which I am referrig to is Matthew 18:21-22. I believe that there is a logic behind it (ergo formula): When we forgive our brothers 7 times 70 we are demonstrating great love and patience. Also we are bound to lose count after the 10th or so offense. I believe that Jesus was not setting a limit on the amount of times that we are to forgive--those were simple times (not too many people had twenty pairs of matching shoes and purses) and such a multiple would seem a tremendous amount to keep track of. And, I believe that Christ was bringing us to the Father's position on forgiveness: Isaiah 1:18-19. Hope it's been clarified! God Bless! |
