Bible Question: What does it mean to be secure, gracious and teachable? (in regads to becoming a teacher of children) :) |
Bible Answer: Dear Shell, To my way of thinking these three attributes you have identified are important to any teacher, no matter what their age. 1. A teacher must be secure in the knowledge of his/her own faith. This is no easy fete. It requires being willing to give up all that we are, have, and hope for into the hands of our Father. In a recent class a professor of mine said, "We teach best those things that we live." 2. Being gracious brings to mind the following passage: Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another... Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. (Ephesians 4:25, 29) Oh but that we could learn to actually dispense grace with our lips! 3. Teachable is another great attribute for a teacher. It is hoped that the students will be people of this sort. They bring to mind the verses: Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful. (Proverbs 27:6) Rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee. (Proverbs 9:8b) Be sure you properly understand taxonomy of the childish mind. Instill in them your love and joy of learning. Most of all, though, remember that you are partnered with the Holy Spirit, the Great Teacher. Therefore, allow Him to do what He alone can do so well. God bless you in your vocation! In Him, Doc |
