Subject: able destroy both soul and body in hell? |
Bible Note: Hello Forgvn, You got me wrong. I was not concluding that there is no immortal soul. What I said was: "If there is no immortal soul, then Jesus' statement here seems meaningless, doesn't it?" I was refering to the verse: Matthew 10:28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. (NKJV) You concluded "...we should be afraid of only Him." I agree. However, some do not believe in "ETERNAL" torment of the soul in "hell fire" or the "lake of fire". They believe that the soul of the wicked will simply "cease to exist". My question is how can they believe that in light of this particular scripture. The point is, if the soul ceases to exist by destruction in the "Lake of Fire", then why should anyone fear God more than man. Man can destroy the body, so if the soul then ceases to exist after death, what is the difference in whether a person fears God or not? Do you see what I am getting at? So, again I say to those that do not believe in eternal torment, please explain this scripture. |
