Bible Question: What are the backgrounds of Moses, Solomon, and the writers of the Psalms? Also, what are the backgrounds of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John? Does their background have an influence on the way they wrote their gospels? |
Bible Answer: confused: Some helpful links are at the bottom of this post. Backgound for Moses is in Exodus, for Solomon in 1 Samuel,2 Samuel Kings and Chronicles. David wrote some of the Pslams and others were written by Temple musicians. Matthew is usually associated with matthew or Levi, the Apostle. Mark was a companion of Peter, Luke, a Gentile physician and companion of Paul and John the Apostle. The New Testament writers were often writing for specific audiences and so tooka specific slant: Matthew for Jews or Jewish converts to Christianity, Mark to Roman Gentile pagans and converts from that group, Luke to Hellenic or culturally Greek Gentiles or Christian converts and John for all, filling in the gas in the other Gospels and presenting a systematic theology in his Gospel. http://www.abu.nb.ca/courses/NTIntro/indexNTIntr.htm http://www.salvationhistory.com/online/Beginner/WalkGen.cfm Emmaus |
