Bible Question:
Hi, I've been a Christian since I was young, but I only really dedicated my life to the Lord in earnest when I was 14. I've read the Bible straight through from Genesis to Revelation a few times. Now in my devotions I read through a book straight through. I am starting to feel that there is something more, like I need to get to more solid food. How do I study deeply? How do I get past simply reading the Bible. I do try and memorize some because I've been at AWANA at my church, but besides that? Jo |
Bible Answer: I hope my two cents might be a tiny bit of help. I commend you in your study of the Word; in your industry and discipline regarding memorization; and in your obedience to His service. I can only suggest what Christ suggests to the church of Ephesus in Revelation 2:1-7. You sound like you may be suffering the same malady as those long ago saints, though you have patiently labored (v3). He suggests three steps (v4): Remember (or re-learn) what you are without Christ; Repent for coming to see your own goodness as sufficient; Repeat the first steps of your salvation(i.e., Colossians 2:6). I often quote a friend of mine who said, "The Gospel is not the ABC's of our faith, but rather the A through Z of our faith." Also, remember that we do not obey the Gospel because of what we get out of it. We do not obey the Gospel because it makes us feel better. We obey the Gospel because it is true! Feelings have nothing to do with the truth. As the true children of God read your question and this post, we will pray for you. Furthermore, we will pray for you later on as God brings you to our minds. Continue to fill your mind with the Word, and to obey in other ways. Continue to turn your eyes upon Jesus in prayer and adoration. He is faithful to continue to bring you to perfection, and finish the work He has begun in you! |
